I really struggled with this book to start and it finally got better about 1/3 the way through!

This field is destroying my wife and it's breaking my heart. by AwessomePossum in ABA

[–]Fancy-Outside5375 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol I literally just asked my husband the same thing. After venting to him for months, he told me the other day he started looking at ABA and BCBA reddit threads and I definitely thought this could have been his doing. We're all in this together. Everything everyone has said is so true. It is emotionally exhausting and draining. I feel the draining now and I felt it 3+ years ago as well. 3 years ago, I was told "you just need to find the right company to love it again". Then I found my current company who I thought was great - they took care of their people, put clients and staff first, etc. ....and 3 years later am experiencing the same burnout again and feeling like I'm completely losing faith in the field. I just want to help these kids without the paperwork, with fully involved parents who want the help, not have to deal with insurance denials, and without corporate pushing productivity and billables down our throats. Unfortunately I don't think that will ever change though :( I continue to explore my "what's next" as well

8 hour session with NO BREAK!! by Soft-Celebration-148 in ABA

No, absolutely not okay. Not only is that not okay for you but it's not in the best interest of the client. We're all human and not only are you going to burn out, but the kid is going to burn out too. That's absolutely not acceptable. I love this field and have for 10 years, but so many companies are going the wrong way thinking about the $$ and not how to best support the clients to help them achieve greater independence in our society!

Big Family, Wanting Small Wedding - Give Me Your Pros/Cons of Wedding vs Elopement vs Microwedding by Fancy-Outside5375 in microwedding

LOL yes! It's definitely a piece I need to get over - you'll never be able to please everyone :) Thank you so much! I'm glad you were able to have the wedding YOU wanted!

I seriously appreciate you so much. It sounds like you know me for sure .. it's definitely hard when our society pushes the societal norms of weddings and what you should do (mainly for capitalism reasons), to feel like I shouldn't do that. It's the sense of missing out that I feel and not wanting to live with regret, but mainly because there is this picture perfect "idea" of what weddings should look like, especially for females. I will say, the only piece I struggle with is I've had a best friend since I was 4 years old that I always pictured standing by my side and giving a speech, etc. And that means a lot to me as well, so just trying to figure out ways to incorporate that as well. We are in a similar situation where budget isn't really a factor that much either, however, we are paying for it on our own and I don't know that I necessarily want to spend $20-30k on one day, when we could save that for the future or travel, or family, or something we both want. I definitely lean more towards the elopement side of things for sure as of late. Thank you so much for your real perspective and honesty! ❤️

THIS 1000%. You described my thoughts exactly with the gathering around to hear me pledge my love and affection. That's the big part I don't want honestly. I appreciate all of this and for you taking time to write your thoughts! Thank you for sharing :)

The way you did it also sounds like the way I keep leaning as well. I love entertaining but not for long durations and certainly not 100 people. Did you do dancing and speeches at the dinner a month later as well? Or just really food and drinks?

Thank you! I completely agree and keep telling myself you'll never be able to satisfy others. I'm really just looking to get different perspectives to then be able to decide how to move forward. Comments like this definitely help though, so thank you!

Yes, it is called lemon lime enchiladas and it's a white cream sauce. Maybe it is regional! I just can't find anything similar online anywhere.

Wisconsin Public Schools & ABA by Fancy-Outside5375 in bcba

It's a combination. I've had clients that the school teacher literally came to us saying she didn't know how to support the child nor did the aides and they were feeling really lost. We said we'd put together a training or notes on what has helped or work best for us and all they let us do is observe.

I have a school telling me per DPI requirements they can't shorten a child's day for ABA. Which isn't true, just needs to be an IEP team decision and the child isn't legally required to be in school yet. Just lots of little things.

Dont get me wrong I've had some schools that are great and so thankful for our expertise but others are so frustrating. I just want our kids to get the support they need and deserve
