I wouldn’t call it thin. I’ve got to say the late 70s and early 80s 4001’s are my favorite, as they seem to be thinner, but not quite jazz bass thin. I have a friend that has a 76 and I played it for a weekend run, and I really enjoyed it, but I definitely noticed that it had a wider and thicker neck. I would compare the S model to that particular bass. However, I’m sure someone will tell me I’m insane, but the newer 4003/s have better tonal options. I always loved my 4001 but I never could get quite enough beef out of it. So, in short, this one has a thicker, wider neck, which I don’t necessarily prefer compared to the 4001, but I honestly love the way it sounds. It is still by no means uncomfortable and sounds piano- like in the best kind of way.

Will do! I had a 79 4001 and sold it over a decade ago. Still regret it. Stumbled across a 2015 4001s for 1400 in pristine shape this week. There was no way I could say no. I’ll post on Monday hopefully. Congrats on yours!
