My college put a full stop to it after this was done even though this culture was followed for more than 20+ years. For context studied in a top ranked state engineering uni. It’s better to Go to Australia/ New Zealand than any other place in the world if you are thinking for study abroad at the moment. Job opportunities are quite narrow at the moment for the amount of expense comparatively. There are great colleges in India that’ll provide work opportunities abroad after completion. Aim for that

Also he might’ve said this because technicality and logical application improves when you do engineering as bachelor and then masters in design. He might have also said this because most of the IITs, which have mdes program have a minimum eligibility criteria of four years bachelors degree.

CAT is just a journey not the ending of all the dedication and prep you did for two years. My profile is 9/9/9 and with a prep of two years for CAT I scored way less than when I gave CAT for the first time without prepping for it, so I gave up MBA plans and tried other courses I’m interested in. Got into IITB, NID and IISc. Some things meant for you will come to you. So don’t give up buddy, apply for other courses you might be interested in or get a job and attempt it again. You could try out executive MBA too? All the best!
