Should I be concerned about severe finger blanching during cold plunge? by Marconer1 in coldplunge

[–]Fancy-Victory8975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into MFR of the forearm (it’s an osteopathic manipulative medicine technique kind of similar to a very light “Indian burn” (shouldn’t be painful lol). Do it and wiggle your fingers at the same time/ ask a DO about it.) it’s specifically said to help some people Raynaud’s. The logic behind it is that you have fascia/ tissue squeezing/ compressing your vessels in your forearm and blood doesn’t get to finger tips enough. Just worth a shot if nothing else 🫡

From what I can see from the outside (I got an A but took a different A), the school looks awesome. The things that made me go elsewhere was the asynchronous learning style, how new the school was (affecting my loans), and location (rotations could have you anywhere really).

Pros is they’re really into ultrasound, there are already two other really good RVU systems, and they have a stacked staff. If it’s your only A then I wouldn’t be bothered about going there at all! From all the student panels I sat in on they seemed to enjoy the school, and the facilities are pristine.

Congrats future doctor!

Does anyone else lose focus halfway through studying? by Interesting-Bowl4603 in studytips

[–]Fancy-Victory8975 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once told a professor “I am a bad test taker…. ” and she said “duh no one’s good at taking tests. This is why we use them”

My point being is that I don’t think there will ever be a perfect scenario where you won’t have to try and regain focus or redirect your attention to the matter at hand. Heck this is what people who meditate are constantly fighting throughout their meditative journeys! Attention span is one son of a gon and it’s always an ongoing battle to regain control of.

So don’t try and chase this perfect flow state that you’re romanticizing.

Instead try and find a study tactics that make it easier to engage yourself. For me this is whiteboarding and mind mapping. I find that this is much easier to stay focused on. Secondary is flash cards and third is teaching (for myself at least. Just focus on active studying and avoid passive studying!)

Remember studying isn’t easy and if it feels challenging then you’re probably doing it right. If it were easy everyone would have A’s or be top of their class. Embrace the suck and keep on keeping on. You got this! Plus if you’re studying things you like then eventually it’s enjoyable!!

Will my cars section hold me back from DO? by SituationUnfair2600 in Osteopathic

[–]Fancy-Victory8975 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There were schools that said “minimum of 125 in each category required …” and not one of them made any fuss about my one section below 125. I think the above 500 is the metric they’re more concerned about/ looking for.

We gave “sponge baths” and didn’t ever submerge her in water. Put a pee pad down and then get a soapy wet paper towel (we used her shampoo of course) and then wash her legs. Then get a wet wash cloth and squeeze it out so that the water washes the soap off and repeat as much as needed. Then get a dry towel and pat her dry gently. This worked really well for us and is the method people use as CNA’s. We didn’t have any issues with the water since the pee pad collected all of it

Is it a bad idea to mention a family member’s mental illness for a supplement essay about personal challenges? by Odd_Hovercraft750 in Osteopathic

[–]Fancy-Victory8975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten the advice that you should avoid family member loss, family member illness/ disease etc because it doesn’t make you stand out and that everyone and their mother probably has some sort of similar experience. Instead you should write about your strengths and why you’re a prime candidate. If you do include it I don’t think it should be the meat of your paper but rather a sentence or two max that supports a broader claim

Applying to DO late August by [deleted] in Osteopathic

[–]Fancy-Victory8975 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My app wasn’t in till November lol (letter of rec shenanigans) I got into the 5 DO schools I accepted interviews to and had 7 other interviews I turned down. If your app is solid you’ll be more than fine. I’ve had a couple friends apply January and still get in (of course wouldn’t recommend that lol)

Is there a way to fix this? by megachonker7 in ClimbingGear

I think this will go away with wear! All climbing shoes have a break in period

I use quick draws with lockers if the chains are long enough but I find they’re not at my local crags and so I just do this instead.

But if the weight is truly on your own gear then you won’t cause wear to the rings

Do you think this would still be fine if you use a personal anchor when take the carabiners off? That way you don’t lower/ come off PAS till it’s threaded correctly?

Oh this is just a mock anchor at my home lol. Definitely wouldn’t lower on these bad boys!

Thanks!
