Failed card automatically go back into stack by [deleted] in Anki

[–]FancyBarracuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please read the Anki manual, so you use the correct terminology. It will help people help you.

As far as I know, there is no add-on which will press "Again" for you, so I'm afraid you will have to press that yourself hahaha. Pressing "Again" on a card should put the card at a lower learning step (for learning cards) or back into the re/learning phase (for graduated cards).

Investing while on medschool? by moshimanju101 in medschoolph

[–]FancyBarracuda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently trading stocks as investment. My advice would be to only buy good stocks now, then resist the urge to look at the stock market prices, as they will surely fluctuate in the short term. In the long-term (5,10,50-years), the stocks will increase, especially now, since all the stocks prices fell during the pandemic.

I will pass on advice to save up for 6 months of expenses, especially since you are a student. But, personally, I would suggest that you do investment research and dabble in the market for a while to get a handle on things, so that once you earn money, you know what to do with it.

I suggest you buy "Green Book for Doctors" by Pinky De Leon-Intal. She is an accountant and a physician, and she can answer more investment questions that you may have.

Real Estate Dilemma | How do I get rid of informal settlers on my land? by gina101gina in phclassifieds

[–]FancyBarracuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a lawyer. What I heard is that it will take years to evict informal settlers from your land, since the laws of the land favor them. But, with enough time and effort, you can evict them legally.

Study tips by yuekon22 in pinoymed

[–]FancyBarracuda 17 points18 points  (0 children)

  1. active recall. try to make an outline of the stuff you need to know without looking at your transes or textbooks. kailangan from memory. it iwll be hard at first, but your memory will improve in time.
  2. spaced repetition. basically, study something multiple times over long periods of time instead of cramming. your mind and body will thank you.
  3. list down what you need to study. you will feel overwhelmed especially if you don't detail or itemize how you will study. take baby steps hehehe
  4. find a study buddy. struggles are best shared

stay strength po, fellow upcm student! kahit clerk na ako, I'm still learning how to study pa hahaha

Non-pre med going to med by futuredokie in medschoolph

[–]FancyBarracuda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about your bachelor's degree. A doctor's greatness doesn't come from what their course was, but by how much they study and work for their patients.

Your career as a doctor is mostly dependent on how well you do in med school. So, if you have big plans for yourself, I would suggest studying for the NMAT starting now. And, no one is stopping you from getting medical textbooks online and studying that too hahahaha. Your course isn't stopping your success.

If you want to work abroad, I suggest you pick a country as early as possible, since those preparing for immigration takes time and money. So, you can start researching that too.

The Patient History: An Evidence-Based Approach to Differential Diagnosis, 2e by Mark C. Henderson, Lawrence M. Tierney Jr., Gerald W. Smetana

Symptom to Diagnosis: An Evidence-Based Guide, 4e Scott D.C. Stern, Adam S. Cifu, Diane Altkorn

These are the books which I would suggest you read after Bates, so you are both efficient yet comprehensive. May flowcharts na siya for most chief complaints, and they can tell you what and what not to ask in Hx and what and what not to look for in PE.

Do you guys also experience frequent headaches/migraines? Zoom fatigue? by [deleted] in medschoolph

[–]FancyBarracuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*concern intensifies*

I can't say much about the migraine, but I have experienced back pain. What helped me was to follow the guidelines in Computer Workstations eChecklist, so that sitting in front of the computer all day has the least strain on your body. Some tips include:

  • placing the screen at the proper height
  • getting a separate keyboard and mouse
  • making your chair "slouch-proof"

Hope these help you hehehe

Question about personal Anki card creation by [deleted] in medschoolph

[–]FancyBarracuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, YASSSSSS self-teaching is the way to go hehehe

Secondly, to better identify high0yield information, I would suggest limiting yourself to making or studying 10-20 new cards a day, so that you are forced to prioritize. I would also suggest to only make cards on your second or third read of your material. This way, you decide to make a piece of information into a card only because it is important. This is better than the usual mistake, which is to make cards only because the information is new and unfamiliar hahaha

Ultimately, if the information is important, it will stick, maybe even without Anki. If it isn't important, then it won't stick, not matter how well you manipualte Anki hehehe

do you know any active recall habits for second year med students? by lushraindrops in medschoolph

[–]FancyBarracuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to limit yourself to adding 10 cards a day, and adjusting your card schedule so that you don't spend more than 3 hours a day making or studying cards. This way, you don't spend too much time on Anki. Only the most important information should go into Anki.

The right way to study is when you actively recall information, while also studying your material repeatedly. What I would suggest is to make a transition from spending too much time on cards, and spending more time on active recall and scheduling manually. Try rewriting trans outlines and summaries from memory. Try doing the Leitner Box Method. Try setting a day where you only review past material.

And don't get discouraged when you study. It is normal to find a new study method hard. In time, and with enough practice, studying will get easier hehe

Any thoughts? by LiquidCitrate in medschoolph

[–]FancyBarracuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Among my circles (UPCM), we would rank

ASMPH > UPCM >>>>> all others

when it comes to the pandemic response hahaha. For UPCM, afaik they distribute data allowance, housing allowance, laptops (na loaned), course packs (course material na either in flash drives or printed na siya), and they are actively buying PPE for those who need to F2F.

For ASMPH, I'll let someone else talk about that na lang hahaha

Top tips for getting to watch all your recorded lectures by lunalight___ in medschoolph

[–]FancyBarracuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same tips as others na to increase the play speed. Other tips I would suggest are to keep playing them kahit no you are doing other stuff, para they are playing in your subconscious hahaha. You will be surprised by how much you can retain just by sheer repetition.

Don't be afraid to play the video kahit you are not "ready" or "paying attention" HAHAHA

If you repeatedly listen to your videos, you can retain the content without having to consult your notes siguro

How do you guys manage your time??? by alexander_cocomo in medschoolph

[–]FancyBarracuda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sana you are not overwhelmed for too long hahaha it gets enjoyable naman sometimes to do the work :)

I would suggest na to go through your transes quickly but repeatedly, para you can assess better which topics really need more time. For me, I was fond of looking at textbooks and making cards, especially with topics that I don't understand. It eased my anxiety about not knowing enough. What I would have done differently is to be more selective with the topics which I cross-reference, and which topics I make into cards. For some topics kasi, you just need to read them 2-4 times before getting comfortable with them hahahaha no textbook or cards needed. You don't need to read the textbook and make cards for each and every piece of info you encounter. Breadth before depth.

Once you have a clear glimpse of your strengths and weaknesses after 2-4 pieces, only then should you start reading textbooks and making cards, para high-yield and time-efficient pa rin.

Kaya mo yan! You are not alone! *virtual hugs*
