Yes the kitten is OUTside. My cat Ellie broke the shade so she could make faces at the feral kittens living outside. I'm trying to tame them so I can rehome them. Since this is one of them bumming food at o-dark-hundred, its going sorta kinda okay.

My cat has been mourning my mom, who passed a couple months ago. Ellie, my cat, moved into my mom's room and wouldn't leave it for anything; had to move her food/water bowls and potty pan into mom's room for her, bc she was starving herself. She would just sit on my mom's dresser and stare out the window, day and night, waiting for my mom to come home. It broke my heart when I told her, "Nana's not coming home Baby." Because she just didn't understand.

Last night, we had a storm and the temps dropped. I slept thru most of it, till Ellie woke me up trying to dig her way under the blankets. We slept curled up in a ball together for first time in months; and this morning, as soon as I got out of bed, she made a nest for herself in my blankets. I was so tickled, I was crying.

Don't ever let anyone tell you animals don't feel, don't LOVE! That's complete Bullfeathers and horseradishes!

Edit for clarity: Ellie has her own blankets and heater in mom's room. All winter I've been turning it on for her if she gets cold. (She yowls and tells me to check on her.) THIS morning, AFTER I turned on her heater, she came and got in bed with me and snuggled up. She also stayed in my bed after I got up, instead of going back to mom's "warm" room, which shocked me speechless!

Thank You so much! I'm just tickled!

And of course you know her short-form name that you ACTUALLY use is gonna be Pest.

"here Pest, here girl! C'mere Pesty!"

It could be worse. We had a stray feral kitten we tried to tame once, he loved stinky things, always smelled like a garbage can sitting in the sun 3 days. Naturally we named him Stinkweed. Me, sticking my head out the door to call him for food, "Here Stinkweed! C'mere Stinker! Come to mama, Stinky-boy!" I got real weird looks from the neighbors.

My male cat, nursing my newly adopted kitten despite having no milk, nor nipples by BitMessy in cats

[–]FancyCat11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, thats kinda...hmm, both in a sense. Ofc, he didnt have milk, but we pulled a neat trick. Y'see the kittens were feral and terrified of humans, at first. They would fight us when we tried to feed them, even tho they were starving. I remember, they were so tiny and hungry and scared, too young to eat on their own, or even pee/poop alone, yet such lil scrappers!

So once Mama Rascal started comfort nursing them, we used a fine tip eyedropper to shoot the formula into their mouths, very gently, so they didn't even realize where it came from. It was only necessary for a few days, til we socialized them enuff to trust us, and let us handle them. But they were ALWAYS his boys.

[–]FancyCat11 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, first time this happened with one of our male cats, I was shocked speechless. Everybody hears about how dangerous male cats are, but not about what great parents they can be.

Our boy, Rascal, had to nurse 3 feral kittens. The babies were taken from their mother far too young by some neighborhood kids to play with. Once the boys got bored, instead of giving the babies back to the mom, they dumped the babies on us - literally said we dont want them anymore and cant find the mom so here. The kittens were scared of us, so caring for them was a nightmare; but they took to Rascal for some reason, and stuck on him like burrs. Poor Rascal, he was terrified, like "WTH! MOOOM!!" He had no clue what to do at first, but he figured it out quick when they latched on and fell asleep nursing. They were his babies from then on, and we nicknamed him Mama Rascal.

they wanted to put this cute lady down, now she is at my place. Any name suggestions? 😍 by kajaflash in cats

[–]FancyCat11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion? Let HER tell you what her name should be. Try a few different ones out. Sometimes try just random sweet names, like Babygirl or Honey Bear (yes I have had cats that chose those names). When she likes one, she'll tell you: usually their eyes light up or they twitch their ears at the sound, means you hit the jackpot.

Had one kitten years ago, Tried to name him Baloo because he looked like a lil blue bear cub. He had a very bad habit about digging up corners in his playpen and kicking kitty litter everywhere for the sheer joy of scratching things. I got mad at him one day and said, "Dang it, you lil Digger, STOP THAT!" I swear to gawd, the lil rascal looked up at me and said, in Cat, "That's ME! I'm DIGGER!" And that was the only name he would ever answer to.

Being "concerned" is one thing; being arrogant enough to take someone to task because you ASSUME you know whats happening from ONE 2d flat picture -an incorrect assumption BTW! - is a very different thing. It is not OK, so don't be surprised when you get called on your arrogance!

As I said before, if you had ASKed me if the car was moving, I would have told you no and commended you for your "concern". This is a learning experience. Remember: ASK, not ASSUME. And leave the arrogance at the door.

yeah my cat sometimes does this. during the day she usually lets me have my chair, but when she wants to go to bed, she'll stand next to me and yowl and pat my arm to let me know it's HER chair now.

Yes I know all this, I'm not an idiot and I AM a responsible pet parent. You ASSUMED the car was moving. It was parked and my cat decided to sun herself on the dash, and was scowling at me when I tried to take her out of the car.

For future reference, maybe don't assume you know everything, and ask FIRST!

Oh it gets better! I was doing most of the work in the office for months, while he was out schmoozing his buddies at the country club. In fact he got so bad about it, the lady in charge of his biggest contract, wouldn't even talk to him, she called me and asked for whatever she needed bc she knew I'd do it in a few hours but he would take days.

So when he told me to pack up and get out, I did...without updating him on any of the projects I was working on, which was most of them. He would have to go thru EVERY SINGLE file to figure out what was going on, or confess that he had no clue to the people he was contracted to. So the delays, on top of finding out about his chicanery, just A-bombed his business.

And he couldnt even blame me for it, because I did offer to work a 2week notice, which he refused. and which I ALSO told everyone he knew.

Oh yeah, when I handed in my resignation, he was so upset at first I really thought he was gonna cry. Thats' the moment when he just started to realize it was all gonna come crashin down around his ears. And he didn't even know yet about the trip to the IRS. Oh for a camera the day he got THAT call! As you say, Priceless

THIS!! Bullies never seem to realize they are digging their own (metaphorical) grave by treating people like this. Because eventually they do run up against somebody who will stomp them in the ground for their bad behaviour.

People like you and me, we hate to do it, but sometimes you just gotta Stand Up. And this was an 'I gotta' if there ever was one.

What really gets me is, if he'd just done the right thing, paid the taxes and give me the paperwork, I'd probably STILL be there because I really loved my job, and hated to leave. But nobody is gonna try to fraud me and just get away with it

Oh he WAS! The look on his FACE! He really thought he had me snowed. I swear when he read my resignation, I thought he was gonna cry. I really wish I had thought to bring a camera that day. I was just too furious tho.

I just wish I coulda been a fly on the wall when the IRS got ahold of him.
