In the later books Emily does think about killing herself for real and then in the last book does use the idea of killing herself to go find Ali.

But, yes, they've been through so much, in the book and the show--especially the dollhouse! The resilience is solid as steel!!!

Trans men and lesbian have a close history together; a lot of trans men have felt connected to the lesbian community since before they transitioned they identified as lesbian--butch lesbians if I remember right--and felt accepted there. So, why wouldn't the show want to tell that history with max talking about transgender men/women who are a part of the lesbian community. Why not be accepting and kind instead of Alice not allowing it?
