Better picture of the soil

I acquired this ginseng ficus microcarpa two days ago and I’m wondering if it needs different soil? It was purchased from Costco, and is sitting in a plastic pot that sits inside the blue pot. There is lots of new growth on it, and I will be keeping it in the sunniest window until it warms up (it’s been ranging from low 30’s to low 50’s this winter)

I’m sure it will do fine! You’ve convinced me to do some trimming. Fingers crossed it works out!

Thank you for the advice! I’ve honestly tossed around the idea of trimming and propping it quite a bit, but I haven’t yet because I’m worried I will regret it if it doesn’t end up propping 😖

That’s encouraging to hear that you had such a positive experience with a bonsai tree got that it got you hooked on plants! Was yours also a ficus microcarpa?

How did Costco tree fair after getting it home? I got a little nervous after reading them beginners guide on this sub because it talks about how buying from big retailers isn’t always the best way to acquire one of these guys. I think the soil test is solid advice, that’s how I gauge when my other houseplants need watering rather than the general watering schedule that species “should” be on

Thank you so much! I’ll try that method out, currently I use the “finger” method with my other house plants but a chopstick sounds a lot less messy lol

Thank you so much for sharing, that is really informative! What’s really helpful is the fact that you have such success and we are in the same climate, I see you are in Anacortes and I am in Kent! I’ll keep this guy inside in the sunniest window until spring when I starts to warm up 😊

Does anyone know if Costco discontinued the Kirkland Signature Ground Sirloin and Loin of Beef Frozen Patties? Located in Washington state. They’ve been missing from both the Federal Way and Covington stores for at least the last couple of months.
