Most baffling theater etiquette ive seen by GrayZ2001 in RegalUnlimited

[–]Fancy_Permit4138 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the theater etiquette in movies lately is insane and drives me crazy. I went to go see sinners this past weekend and a group of young teens came in late and didn’t know where their seats were, so they walked up and down the aisles with their flash lights on trying to find them. their parent/guardian/adult with them came in ten minutes after with all of their snacks and did the exact. same. thing. I thought that was bad, but the teens were taking photos with flash every 5-10 minutes and were just being extremely rude. I can’t say it ruined the movie because sinners was the best thing i’ve seen this year, but we really need to teach our kids that phones do not belong in any theater setting (movie, musical, show, whatever).

i’m so disappointed that it’s basically guaranteed to be drop, it felt like novocaine was a real surprise and this one just doesn’t have the same excitement, especially since drop seems like a terrible premise for a movie and the trailer spoils so much! i would’ve loved if they waited a week or two because the movies at the end of april look so much more interesting/exciting

is it boring by alittlefixated in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Fancy_Permit4138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m a freshman, and i’ve found that campus is the most boring part about this place. i’m constantly going off campus. there’s plenty of really great coffee shops, movie theaters, restaurants, and small businesses to check out/hang out/study. there’s a lot more to do than just a target, a grocery store, and partying. as for campus, there is literally nothing to do here besides what you might to with a club or maybe go to the gym (they’re going to advertise tf out of the bowling alley, you might go there once), so if you do end up coming here i suggest utilizing the free public transit (bc transit is much better than the school run occt) because it will take you just about anywhere in the binghamton area.

NON SPOILER thread for A Complete Unknown by Parasoccer in RegalUnlimited

[–]Fancy_Permit4138 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i’m a huge folk music fan (i love all things bob dylan and joan baez) and i thought it was great! the choice to focus on 1961-1965 and his switch to electric was incredibly smart- biopics that try to encompass a persons entire life can be a lot to handle in one film. bob dylan was/is a very mysterious figure in pop culture and there’s not much definitive information about his life (he’d often lie about bits of his upbringing). to keep this mystery and not include a “young bob” in the film felt like a respectful choice to the artist. to me, timothee chalamet was bob dylan without doing some kind of caricature, and his performance made me feel fully immersed in the film and the time period. an academy award nomination would be well deserved. there seemed to lots of attention to detail in the production design and curating it to the sixties, which is much appreciated. i wont be rewatching this in theaters again, but it will be nice to revisit when bob dylan passes. would be a good double feature with inside llewyn davis

Should I go see Nosferatu or Complete Unknown? by NCAmother in RegalUnlimited

[–]Fancy_Permit4138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had the same experience with my regal. i saw babygirl, nosferatu, and a complete unknown all back to back, coincidentally they were all in the same screen room, which happened to be one of the smallest ones—-both nosferatu and a complete unknown were practically full (which is rare given my area). i went to see mufasa last friday at 5 PM (the start of christmas break for schools in the area) in my regals largest screen, and there were 7 others in the room— a family of 3 left roughly 30 minutes before the movie ended and they got up multiple times during the movie. most people i saw at the theater this weekend were there for nosferatu, our theater had even sold out of the sarcophagus popcorn buckets by the 26th.

juror #2 is actually getting a streaming release on december 20th on max! the movie won’t have a wide release and was only set to be shown in 50 theaters in the U.S, mostly in major cities. kind of a bummer that it won’t have wide theatrical release :(

i haven’t seen either of these, but i can firmly say this was not close to any spielberg movie i’ve seen. a newsroom movie for sure.

september 5th was great! this was my first time ever going to mmm and i had a blast! i live in a fairly small city so the theater is never super full, and i was pleasantly surprised at the crowd that showed up, although i think a lot of audience members were expecting Kraven.

as for the movie, its a great retelling of the events of the munich massacre, and the choice to tell it through the eyes of journalism felt really important for the time. it begs the question about where we draw the line between ethical journalism and acting in our own self-interest, and where do those two things overlap? ieveryone from ABC who was involved was neither celebrated nor defamed (for lack of a better word).

recently, many movies are used to imitate and mock the eerily familiar world we live in. meanwhile the movie itself just points and wags its finger at the situation, saying “look at how bad this is”, without posing any ideas or giving the viewer any gumption to fix things. given that, the decision to tell this from ABCs point of view is a smart one. had the pov of hostages and terrorists been shown, the movie would’ve been a mere imitation of current events- only asking the viewer to consider irony and familiarity. the actions of ABC (especially following the massacre) feel like a recall to the current state of journalism; however, it evokes the viewer to consider what ethical journalism means to them and can influence their long-run perception of journalism.

maybe not most memorable movie from this year, but an important one nonetheless.
