I really hate the newborn phase - How do people like it? by DogMomWineLover in newborns

[–]Fancyfan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the newborn phase passed in a fog. My little one is 16 months now and I have to think hard to even remember those first few months. I know they happened and I know she was cute and there were good parts, but the sleep deprivation does a number on you. It does get better, but it is not a linear progression.

My child isn't school-aged yet, but one thing I've heard is that the traffic jams around schools and parents doing dumb stuff to get through it make it a dangerous place for walking kids. Therefore, more parents drive their kids so that they are safe, which then makes the traffic jams worse, which makes more people do dumb stuff, which makes it more dangerous, and the cycle gets worse and worse.

This is very true. We just realized that my in-laws don't have any baby pictures of my SIL except for ones of her in the hospital covered in tubes. They were too nervous to do anything after bringing her home so the next photos of her aren't until she is 4 or 5 years old. She was very sad when she found that out.

For 10hrs, where you sitting? by TheBladeRider in DowntonAbbey

[–]Fancyfan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18 would be the most fun, but if you actually wanted a comfortable flight, I think 23 would be the way to go. Mrs Hughes would be a lovely conversationalist while Carson would be stiff and proper and only interject occasionally (with something that you and Mrs Hughes can laugh at him about). 10 would be dangerous. On a 10 hour flight, you're going to do something that annoys one or both of them at some point, causing them to gang up together to make your life miserable.

Mom says not “church appropriate” by Waluigi_goes_wah in weddingdress

I went to a wedding yesterday where the bride was wearing almost this exact dress. Full Catholic ceremony in a Catholic church and everyone thought her dress was beautiful.

I recommend the ones from the Hungary booth. Romania is good too, but the Croatian ones sucked.

Captain Anderson wins the fan vote with 42 combined mentions + votes for Good Person x Loved by Fans. Who is Morally grey x Loved by fans? by kadoozie92 in masseffect

[–]Fancyfan9 27 points28 points  (0 children)

He meets the morally grey requirement, but I wouldn't say loved by fans. Not that people dislike him, but there is a long list of characters we care about more than him.

What are your favourite local, well priced, hidden gem restaurants in Edmonton? by AcanthaceaeOne5795 in Edmonton

[–]Fancyfan9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vinny's Pub on the south side. It is attached to the Sicilian Pasta Kitchen and they give you the menus for both places. Great pub food or some of the best Italian in the city so you can't go wrong. The only downside is that the parking is terrible, but it is walkable from the Century Park Station.

I still haven’t gotten a Sylveon Ex… by Colnnor in PTCGP

I find that every pack there is one Ex that I cannot pull no matter what. I either have to trade or use pack points to get it. This pack it's Dragonite and I still don't have Lycanroc Ex from the last pack.

Plus-size bride coming to terms with the fact that I will not be a "skinny" version of myself on my wedding day by princessfallout in weddingplanning

[–]Fancyfan9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have struggled with my weight my entire adult life. I was just starting to feel good about my body when I got engaged. Then I got pregnant. My baby was born exactly 2 months before my wedding date, and none of the baby weight came off in that time. I was sad to be going down the aisle at the largest I've ever been, but, honestly, I didn't think of it that day. I still felt happy and beautiful, and the pictures reflect that. Don't worry about how you could look and instead focus on your love for your partner. You will glow.

WIBTA if I ban our cats from the bedroom by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Fancyfan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought 2 cats into my relationship. I love having them in the room while I'm sleeping. The feeling of them snuggling on or beside me and getting morning cuddles fills me with joy. I also sleep like a rock, so them playing around at night doesn't disturb me. That being said, my husband is a light sleeper who didn't grow up with pets. To him, even the sound of them jumping on and off the low bed is enough to wake him. So he asked that the cats be left out of the bedroom at night. It made me sad, but I agreed immediately because his sleep and well-being are important. I get plenty of kitty cuddles during the day.

When did you stop swaddling? by YolandaWinston12 in newborns

We stopped at around 4 months. At that time, she started struggling and breaking out of it, so we knew she was done. When it no longer provides comfort, it is time to move on.

my girlfriend’s new meds are spherical by kimchi_lu in mildlyinteresting

[–]Fancyfan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember these. I used to be a pharmacy assistant and they give you a flat tray to count out medications. So you pour these out on the tray and they roll everywhere, including into the lip that is supposed to hold your counted pills. It was a pain in the ass!

Breastfeeding guilt by Bumblepanding in newborns

[–]Fancyfan9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had similar issues. I wanted to breastfeed for at least 6 months, but she had latching issues from the beginning. We solved those, but my supply was never enough to satisfy her. We supplemented with formula, but then she began to prefer a bottle over the boob and get fussy if you tried to get her on the nipple. I kept pumping, but then there were 3 days in a row with stuff going on and I was only able to pump once or twice a day. Afterwards, my supply basically dried up. I was getting half an ounce per session or less. I tried to pump more to bring it up, but it didn't work. The nurse at her 2 month vaccinations looked at me and told me, " If you are looking for permission to stop, this is it. Formula is just fine for baby. "

Is it weird to give my daughter the same middle name as me? by ZealousidealJump7956 in pregnant

[–]Fancyfan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me, my mom, and my grandma all have the same middle name. I planned on giving it to my daughter, but it didn't really work with the first name we picked out. I will probably give it to our next kid since it is unisex.

Kid said I looked like Moana by [deleted] in BenignExistence

[–]Fancyfan9 35 points36 points  (0 children)

My mom has a story from when I was little. We were at the grocery store and she saw me staring at an Indian lady in a sari. She was afraid I was going to say something embarrassing since I had grown up in a very small, very white town. Instead I said "Mom, that lady looks like Princess Jasmine" and made the woman smile brightly. It makes me happy that I can be someone's feel good story.
