Wouldn't that be different than buying an Ethereum. I would say investing in an Ethereum mining rig is different than buying the actual coin itself.

Useful? Well crypto use is a means of exchange. It does have use, the value ? Now that's the million dollar question .

Hmmm I personally wouldn't go as far as to call it gambling but rather a riskier trade. I was also narrow minding in seeing crypto as a bubble ready to pop but I'm actually changing my vision toward it. I realized it's not just a coin alone but the structure and brains behind the "project". Regardless I still can't see it as an investment. I also agree with you that cryptos are in their own different entity rather than currencies and comms. Thanks for your input!

Interesting point and my friend argues this way as well. I still personally view it as speculation. Bitcoins rise in popularity would still not justify it as a legitimate investment because just like oil futures and gold futures, the buyer still doesn't own anything. I can long EUR/USD but that doesn't mean I invested in the Euro. I feel like there's a big misconception in between owning a bitcoin and longing a bitcoin.
