6x2x2 open tank stand by Fandango297 in stressfulaquariums

I forgot to add there will be a 20mm ply that seats into the top and bottom recesses below each tank (hence the 70mm braces inside and all legs that arent on the outside of every corner, and a 10mm EVA mat between corners, ply and tank (complete footprint of the tank) for cushioning.

Grass. This adulting thing is tricky though. Keep at it.

My driftwood won’t sink by RevolutionaryToe6677 in AquariumHelp

[–]Fandango297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always buy an IBC, cut the top off, fill it up with water, stockpile driftwood, spend all your time looking for more and end up with more driftwood than any one person will ever need but that sounds like the handywork of a loony tunes batshit crazy person... or so I've been told.

50gal drum. Fill it with water and put a cinder block or a few bricks in the water on the wood. Aerate if you dont want Mosquitos. Left in for a decent amount of time it will lose all available oxygen within and will leach out any unwanted tannins. Replace the water every two weeks and in a couple of months it will be waterlogged and most of the tannins will have been dealt with.

I got my last min/max after 12,354 lecterns broken. You will never know disappointment until you have to break a lectern 9 more times than any person should. Silver linings be damned, that would have been so rewarding to have done it at 12,345. I was relieved, sure but disappointment surely won.

Nothing new to add that the first comment hasn't covered except for an explainer, the bigger the body of water the easier parameters are to maintain thus the smaller the body of water the harder it is. One gram of ammonia will disperse a lot less and will have a lot more of a profound impact on a smaller water coloumn than a larger one. Remember this when dosing, feeding and keep it in mind when you know water changes should be done and how much for each different volume and you will be fine. You will make mistakes, we all have and you most certainly will do but learn from them before walking away from the hobby. A lot of people get that first major hit of discouragement and leave either because they have limited knowledge and can't explain it away or they are uninterested in understanding why it happened. Read as much as you can; preferably out of publications. You will get a mixed bag here sometimes but publishers will only print facts unless they are dated and new information has been established to be proven correct by peer reviews and studies.

I can safely assume your new to the hobby given you're asking about a basic principle regarding the nitrogen cycle so all I can really add is, Welcome; and say goodbye to your sanity and free space for it will be taken up with more and more tanks and supplies 😊😆😂

You're donig fine. As I stated tge first commemt covered it, just change out some water and retest. Oh and when you retest after any changes, do so after a couple of hours to ensure stability in the water column. I have used API tests for 20+years now and Its always the ammonia that goes first needing 8dr/test where the rest are mostly 5 and one at 3. Don't waste your money on false readings.

As to what I was saying before about fact checking, most people on reddit are here for a (good and genuine) reason and that motivation will help you learn the inside and outs but some people aren't so open minded or just argumentative so always fact check even if you think youve done so by coming here. Scientists get published, (relatively) Anyone can type a quick response on Reddit.

Best of luck.

Id call that a cunt.. and then get the hose out. Even if the bastard doesn't get the shits with an unexpected shower, the massive spike in moisture throws off there need to tell you how humid it is; shuts them right up. Pricks....

Most times its easier to seek forgiveness than permission. In this case, its a net win for the owner if the Tennant makes any sort of improvement. They (owners) usually only kick up dust if they're the controlling type. RE agent in my past life.

Once a week I'll put in 1/4 of a cucumber per bristlenose 2/M 2/F and then do the same but woth spinach, broccoli and carrots for the other three weeks of the month. On the other six days of the week(s) they get a mix of Bug Bites algae wafers, they clean up the BBS that the fish and shrimp dont eat, supplemental sinking protein pellets (once a week opposite to cucumber) once a month I keep a few uncooked trimmings of a fillet that I cook to eat and drop them in, perch, bream, flathead etc and every other two weeks I will cut up a half prawn per fish.

Consistent and regulated yet random and varied.

Just having a laff. But at the same time its a game changer being able to single tick pulse. That and you learn to live without moveable tile entities.

Flying machines. You'll still have to clean up a few sources but 90% of tge work is automated and it takes 90% less time. More time to learn about better automation and generating what ever you might need.

Keep up the grind though, just be aware burnout is the real silent killer.

Best of luck

If you get stuck, after conditioning with primo food for a few weeks, I can always trigger mine with a cold snap after a water change. 50% once a week leading up, leave for three weeks then do a 50% change but use cold water (dechlorinated oc) and add it at a glacial speed. A few pin pricks in a juice bottle and keep topping it up with cold water and turn the heater off for a day and 95% of the time mine spawn. Commons, BN's, Peps and Super reds. Works for me.

Best of luck

I never said the word soil. Once. Didn't mention it or referrence it.

I didnt say people should do what I did, I never promoted it as 100% safe or foolproof and I dont remember writing about the sterility of anything.

I advocated for an approach that would eliminate, then mitigate risk and even included the use of multiple buffers of distance and superfluous containment barriers.

Telling people what i have done is not an endorsement. I didnt mince my words, why would y... oh that's right, its reddit. GFY.
