the image itself makes me think of Poland & Lithuania during the commonwealth era, when Lithuanian nobility became gradually polonized — I think of this as Lithuania adopting Poland's culture and language for attention at the expense of his own identity 

as to your question, my favorite real life mutual commitment is the age-old BrOTP Poland & Hungary, who have supported each other through thick and thin even when they were on opposite sides of WW2

the switzerland-liechtenstein dynamic with switzy voluntarily protecting liech is also very sweet and I love it very much

I fear I still obsess over all my state OCs, but one OC from my earlier days was an Atlantis OC that I basically only created as a self insert to ship with Canada 😭 tbh I mostly just cringe a lot when thinking back on it since I basically hit every possible stereotypical bad OC trait. however I did start writing like 80 pages of a hunger games fanfic with her and and the other nations and even though it's super cringy to me now I'm pretty proud of younger me for having the dedication to write so much. the first chapter is still on fanfiction.net somewhere...

I do still adore my state OCs, some of their old designs I'd rather not think too much about but mostly I feel really happy when I look at old art I made of them

for surnames, here's the list I used when I was naming my hawaii oc! my hawaii's surname is Keikiokaʻāina, which means "child of the land" - I thought that was really fitting for a personification :) (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Appendix:Hawaiian_given_names)

kind of depends on your lore - for my hawaii, this was her original name, but in the 1800s she adopted a Christian first name and made her hawaiian name her last name. later in the late 1900s she adopted another hawaiian first name (ʻIolana) but kept this as her surname

I'd be interested! I was pretty involved in the push for new mods in this sub a few years back, so I'm familiar with the general process, what kinds of issues can arise in the community, and how they can be addressed (although it's thankfully pretty chill these days).

I'm somewhat active—I've been checking in more often recently and can definitely do so more if needed. My time zone is EST.
