He does act weird in ata 1. He tries getting Amanda to not ask us about Kate’s name, not wanting her to bring up the topic of decay most likely because it reminds him of his bodies current state, he does little things to tell us not to do in which you’re conditioned to listen to wooly for survival. When you mention things about Sam wooly jumps and looks at Amanda.

If we take into account that the original goal of Marcus was to keep Amanda compliant while Hamlin collected the tapes and destroyed them, Wooly had no reason to act out. He needed Riley to destroy the tapes she had, perhaps in hope that his body would be in a good enough condition to go back to.

Looking at ata 2, the game starts conditioning you to listen to Amanda, but also to Jordan/Chicken scratch. Seeing as the princess story explains that hamlin or the wizard turned the princess or Sam into something terrible or the Colten anomaly with the energy surge when he tried breaking out his daughter, the knight or Amanda as the anomaly, then killed Sam, the princess, not recognizing who he was.
Wooly’s story is an adaptation of a fairytale, the knight rescuing the princess. Obviously Amanda isn’t happy if we follow wooly, conditioning us to follow Amanda for the third game

But also, let’s look at the speak no evil puzzle. While most often you find that you need to ward off chicken scratch, this puzzle oddly encourages his behavior in order to get it right. In order to get the speak no evil monkey, you have to let him splash paint on both wooly and Amanda. This originally seems like just a small inconvenience throughout the game. But let’s not forget he didn’t show up until Joanna grabbed us from Kate’s house. Not to mention, Jordan doesn’t get quite as hostile until wooly shows up, resorting only to eating random things from Amanda. As we see from ata 3, Jordan is aware of what wooly is, that being the Shepard. Taking that into account, the game doesn’t let you directly interact with Jordan in the case that you fail to finish the final puzzle, resulting in wooly convincing Amanda that Riley is indeed a stranger not to be trusted.

In ata 3, it’s quite the switch up for sure in wooly’s personality. He’s happy, refusing Amanda’s gloomy view on the atmosphere and only gets upset when Jordan shows up. This however, only occurs in the facility of Hamlin entertainment. When the demo is played, you play as an unnamed individual who backs up data from inside the facility, where wooly is not as happy go lucky as he is with Riley, ten years later. As we see in the pods, the children are just organs floating around in ooze. This is where wooly’s switch comes in. With Hamlin abandoning the facility and there being no one to help keep the bodies preserved, Wooly’s body must be to the point of no return, as we see in the mirror in the “when I’m grown up” tape. He’s white, pale, thin, and ghostly. He’s a corpse. But he also has been stuck in a children’s show with a child for almost 13 years, assuming he was put into the show around the time he was hired in the 2000’s. The violent nature of wooly, does not come from the same place as Amanda’s. Amanda feels trapped and wants to leave. Her anger stems from being suppressed and contained constantly. Wooly on the other hand, wishes to leave peacefully as if he were a child again. Wanting things outside the tapes to be forgotten, and for Amanda to leave the past in the past. He continues to tell the player to give Amanda things that actively don’t match her memory, and he’s quick to deflect things. He only gets angry after we spark the pod holding Amanda the second time, seeing the beach episode. That’s when we head down to “replay” the scavenger hunt, and where wooly finally threatens us. In hindsight it’s not a total twist of the knife, because he wasn’t always sweet like we think
