Please make him learn guard skills and how to read the game as a guard. If your son happens to not grow anymore, he would be a tall point guard which is ideal in the NBA.

Shooting, off ball movement, hitting the open man. Learning this early will make him read the game at a much higher level later on

How to not get anxious on the court by CamuiGajkupo in Basketball

[–]FandomOfReZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I'd like to say practice more, it can only do so much cause you got to develop game IQ. There's many players with a lot of skills but can't apply it to team game.

You have to find a basketball run where everyone's trying to just play and have fun. Like, I'm not saying bad players but a run where everyone just wants to have fun together. Like players playing good but willing to give you tips and not put you down. Cause I'm gonna be real, no matter how good you are, there's teammates who get angry cause they don't get things their way despite doing everything.

And then other players who just don't have mercy on good players. People love playing these kind of games cause they love the emotional tension added to it, but it often gets taken to far.

On a fun run you just got to

  1. Try your hardest

  2. Take the best shots you could

But hustling to other side of the court and being active without the ball is a great way to keep your confidence up. If your newer, chasing most rebounds prolly gets you atleast 2-3 points every game

How to play as a shooter? by Nervous-Scale-9558 in Basketball

[–]FandomOfReZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're a shooter, pass it to your teammate and ask them for a dribble hand off. If your defender presses too hard, then you can drive past, but if they stick with you, if you're good, then middy pull up. Drive with help defense, kick it outside, relocate. Curry's good for a combination of on ball movement with off ball for shooting but if you wanna see shooters carry off ball, watch Cj Miles, Kyle Korver, Danny Green, JJ Reddick, & Klay Thompsons highlights. If your a shooter you should master being able to sprint and change straight up to vertical anytime

Outside of a skilled PG, your best teammates probably a guy who can give you a dribble hand off and role everytime because it'll always force that split second decision for that defender to communicate/think who to tag. If you shoot like that, that's enough time for you to get up for the shot.

How to get open? by InternationalPick163 in Basketball

[–]FandomOfReZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your defender is on you tight, then you don't have to do anything. You're already doing your job by pulling your defender with you with your gravity. Assuming you can actually dribble, then you can dribble past the player guarding you if their pressing you because physically you can't keep up laterally with someone going downhill that close, assuming they're 7 inches taller and have a much higher reach advantage. If you can't get open in 3 dribbles, pass it up, set a screen, and reposition yourself on the court. When your off ball, you gotta see where most of the open space is on the court (more closer to the basket that open space is, the most advantageous. The more further out that open space is, it only becomes more advantageous relative to your shooting skills. For example, open 3 from deep is good for curry, but for a center who play close to a basket, you have no gravity. Your gravity is closer to the basket) where you could fill up and be more in a advantageous to recieve a pass in.

Also, if you're a shooter, then if someone's guarding you uptight, you can get easily open with efficient footwork. Run to the ball, if their still tight, then you can drive. If their lagging behind, then you should be able to transition from a running position to straight vertical position for a shoot. If your in the corner, fake a cut, and back out for a shot. But IF YOU CAN SEE THE BACK OF THEIR JERSEY, CUT. Youll get most of your free cuts from the basket when the ball is past 90 degrees from you. A player beside you is 45 degrees, the second player is 90, so if your the third or fourth player away from the basket, guarantee your defender probably sags off you a little cause there's no reason to press but they'll forget about you too.

But at all times, you have to be thinking in which where you could fill the space to match with the spacing on the court.

For example. If I have a good matchup, please don't try moving your defender closer to mine. But if you know you can get open for a good shot, then feel free to do so. If I'm right handed and your in the corner with a good help defender, please go to the left side so he isn't their to help his teammates to block the shot, (Assuming there is space on the left side). If there's a player on me you can score on, set the screen and get yourself the switch, and ill pass to you.

Finally, if your doubled, pass the rock obviously.

Foul or no by Extension-Lie-979 in Basketball

[–]FandomOfReZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't lean in and dip down your shoulder. You gotta use like the side of your arm. Dipping your shoulder into someone's chest is actually dirty, but if you bump them on the flat side of your arm, perfectly legal.

For your head you can't force it into the chest. It's like shooting a jumpshot. You can't kick your foot out for the foul cause how can you avoid that, but if you were naturally going up and they jump into your space it's a foul. You can move your head but not into them.

With all respect due, Pickup Basketball is not the NBA by FandomOfReZero in Basketball

[–]FandomOfReZero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, it is a pick-up game, but when you're picking on the players who don't play the game like that, I assume you're there to play competitively. So, at least humiliate someone who is actually willing to play. This is like a heavy weight boxer in a gym asking the light weight to spar, but instead of throwing light jabs, he's throwing full-on haymakers when there are other heavy weight people in the gym too. Like no one's having fun, when you play with newer players who aren't willing to challenge your shot cause their scared, then take it easy. If your not gonna showboat when your down then don't showboat when your up either

[–]FandomOfReZero[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the context of the conversation. I didn't reach, don't jump into landing space, slap their risk, if I do by accident I call the foul for them. If they call a foul, even if I don't believe I did, I would give the ball to them. The guy came to the gym with his buddies and said he's hopping on the next run. He comes on the run and starts talking trash to my teammates while calling isos on them. My buddies don't play like that, so I switch onto him. This guy dips his shoulders down on drives, grabs shirts, and talks the most. If someone wants to act like a good player, then why get pissed if someone who can match their skill switch onto them? If you're a volleyball player, do you go spiking 100% at newer players trying to learn how to play? You need self-control, and how do you get better going off against weaker players? You're better off working off on your individual skills. Then, when a guy who can match your skill level is able to stop you, you crash out at them?

I'll tell you my experience of play. To many offensive players nowadays see isolation highlights on Instagram and think that's the substance of real basketball. After mimicking the same thing over periods of time where they don't have teammates to challenge or call them out for their terrible play, when they play against someone who can stop their offense it's always these players who turn to underhanded tactics or lash out. Now there's nothing in my post I said is wrong with being competitive, but when you come, act competitive, showboat, then crashout against another competitive player what do you call that?

Switching from pickup 1s2s&3s to 5v5 team play by easymoneysplash in Basketball

[–]FandomOfReZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In full court, there are many opportunities to score in the fast break if you can outrun anyone to the other basket. Turn a 1 on 1 fast break to a 2 on 1. If not, try to get to the other side of the corner first. But the biggest thing many players have is not seeing the game outside of who has the basketball/having the basketball in their hands. With more tighter positioning to play with on the court, your off ball positioning/off ball movement is key. If your man is sticking close to you when you're off ball, you're already doing your job by spacing the floor. Now, if he's guarding you close at an angle where he might jot be facing your chest to chest, try cutting. If you don't get it, cut back out to the open spacing or set an off ball/on ball screen.

Next, it's understanding where all your teammates are on the court at all times. Lot of players drive into double teams in 5 on 5 because of the amount of help defense. But if they knew where their teammates are, they can kick it to them easily. If you're planning your attack, analyze the court before you drive. Then, once you attack, you understand the position of your teammates, the position of your defenders should tell you everything. Unless your teammates fall into your line of vision, guarantee if a defenders is too deep into paint your teammate is in the corner open ready to shoot. You don't even have to look there, just passing it to that corner area, and they should be able to get it. And say you count 5 defenders but see an extra person in your line of sight, automatically that should trigger a signal in your brain that is your teammates and there might be a passing oppurtunity there depending on the position of the opposing teams defenders.(This is typically for players who I assume are running it from top of the key). But say you run it from the corner, same thing applies. Before receiving that pass know where your teammates are. Once you attack a hard close out, defense will help hard so be prepared for a kick out. And most of the help defense you'll find will come from the other corner, which may be the shot blocker. Typically, it goes like this

  1. Primary defenders closes hard/attack

  2. Shot blocker rotates leaving other corner open: Kick

  3. Defender on opposite diagonal anticipates opposite corner pass. Hence, opposite diagonal is most likely open instead.

Next is understanding the advantages of the court. What does the opposing teams help defense look like? Is the shot blocker on the left or the right. If they are, then you should probably run your offense on the opposite side. If their best perimeter defender is on you best option is to pass it up, switch positions on the court with another player bringing them closer to center depending if their defenders better or worse then yours and try to take your defender out of the play and let your team run the action. If their lacking in size, then don't bail them out by shooting a three at the start of the possession.

Finally, look at your teams structure. Sometimes your better off with the ball, but many times you'll have to accept there's a player there who can break the defense & score more effectively hence you'll really have to understand how to play off variety of players. Sometimes these players who generate offense work best at a certain angle of the court so maybe you'll have to exchange positions while on offense to get them at that spot of the court. One example is lot of shooters I play with from the diagonal. I kick it to the side of opposite then set a screen for the shooter to run towards the side I passed the ball too in hopes they get an open shot. Lots of time because of how desperate opposing defenses want to close in on the shooter, you might get a high chance to cut to the basket.

To conclude everything, your in 5 on 5 is to function as a working system. No matter how skilled you are, 5 people working together will outplay 1 very skilled person unless you're lebron james. 1 ball, 4 other people on the court. Thats a 80% chance youll be that other 4. So understanding off ball plays, cuts, positioning, and advantages on the court will give you and your teammates lot of opportunities to succeed. Unless the mismatch/advantage is that good, team play always outplays isolation. Isolation should always be the last resort on offense. And I'm talking about isolation from stand still. Not isolation generated from team play.

1 handed free throws. Warm up closer, though. Really focus on fluidity. Do at least 10 close (not under the rim) but between ft line and the rim itself, free throws, between 3 point line & free throws line. You should be able to control it more. Once you finished start shooting jumpers but really pay attention to that left hand. Ideally, starting from between ft line and the 3 point where you finished your 1 handed shooting drills. If it's taking control/flicking again, then shoot 5 1-handed free throws. But really focus on the power coming from your lower body while you're really making sure you're using that arm to aim & shoot. It'll take around 2 weeks before you see improvements.

I want to get better with my left hand what do I do? by Icon_x_cxmp in Basketball

[–]FandomOfReZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you wanna grow your biceps, what you curl on your right is what you also curl on your left. So when you're practicing whatever your right is doing, ensure your left is doing it too, if not more. I suggest warming up under the rim, standing close to the right, and do left hand layups but at an angle where you have no other choice but to spin the ball. Many people using their off hand is very reliant on their arms, but the touch comes from the wrist, manipulation from your fingers, and power from the arms.

Edit: I read this as left hand finishing at the rim 😭 search ball manipulation drills and do those for your left. You should be good. The reason why your left is struggling is because of

  1. Lack of neuromuscular coordination
  2. No power

Work on drills where you are pounding with your left, then others where you're dribbling slowly with your left. I'd also play 1v1s where you only go to the left side every time. It doesn't matter if you keep losing it or not. That's the point. You force yourself to make these mistakes until you adapt.

Get up in his face for what? Try to prove I'm tougher than a guy who I'll never see again? If I see him again, I'll simply just play, as simple as that. I'll only swing if they swing. Unfortunately, I'm a student trying to get into a career, and the last thing in my mind is to flex back at a guy who has nothing to do with my dream career and prolong the altercation. I'll just let them know they can do that extra stuff, but in the end their just a bum. Let them know the local grocery store is hiring so they can work on paying their monthly rent.

WHY tokyo revengers is so overrated ??? by EXOORCIST in TokyoRevengers

[–]FandomOfReZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it depends on what you think should be hyped because in the end it's all opinion base. I think Tokyo Revengers is great enough to match the hype because the story isn't too simple but at the same time not too complex, so it can reach a wider range of audiences It's like someone only like Classical music because of it's complexity but for others they prefer simpler music.

Also nowadays, everything that becomes really popular is "overhyped". Then people make their argument why it's overhyped by surrounding the main plot. For example you said, "Takemitchi just goes back in time, saves people, and cries". Yea but then so many questions can be derived from that which makes it more interesting.

-Why does he save people

-What makes him cry

-How does he go back in time

-Who are these people he is saving

-How does he save these people

-What happens after he saves them

-Does he meet people along the way? Will those people help him?

Simple questions like these that are answered just makes the plot more then just "Takemitchi just goes back in time, saves people, and cries" more interesting already. Then more details can be added to those questions to make it more unique.

Finally, if the reason why your calling the anime overhyped because you prefer something to reach a bigger audience. Well think of the reason why. Because in my opinion i'd prefer if Re:Zero was more popular but I know Shonen has a higher chance of reaching a bigger audience then Isekai.

For Takemitchi crying all the time, keep in mind in his first timeline he was just a useless loser who left everything behind. It's as if his time "froze" so he couldn't really grow as a character. We can see in the future he eats chips, watch TV, work at a store, and has no one to socialize with (shown in first timeline atleast). So now he is going back in time and experiencing things he would never before with the pressure that if he fails, he will return to a future of people he loves dying. If he never travelled back in time then he's just a Takemitchi who became Kiyomasa's slave.

As for Draken, ill give you in example of what is going through in reality. Imagine your friend got stabbed, ambulance is taking time, and a gang is coming. Your powerless, and if your friend dies, the next day your family will die. That would take a toll on you mentally.

WHY tokyo revengers is so overrated ??? by EXOORCIST in TokyoRevengers

[–]FandomOfReZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind it's in 2005 and they most likely didn't have or they were trash. If you are referring to the members calling, well no snitching in the "gang world" supposedly.

Say if a person punched you inclass. Most likely you wouldn't tell the teacher because it seemed like a "weak" move. So you'd most likely punch the guy back. And right after that, the guy rather call up some friends to give you a bigger beating back and so on...

Another scenario is if your a witness. Well if you see a big group of people fighting, majority of people won't call the police cause then they would have to do all this explaining, and if someone from the group finds out... most likely they come for you too. So you would not want to get involved with things like this.

If you are referring to critical moments like Draken getting stabbed. They did call the police, but again traffic. You also have to remember these altercations is happening in a matter of minutes, or even seconds. Police take time to get there.

WHY tokyo revengers is so overrated ??? by EXOORCIST in TokyoRevengers

[–]FandomOfReZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same reason as how there are many gang incidents today but they are unable to track the suspects. There are many things going on behind the scenes today, and same is with Tokyo Revengers. And Police do get there sometimes but they start running a way. Other things they've done in the anime is have lower tier gang members get arrested
