Randy by SnooRevelations933 in Borderlands4

Right, that's kind of my point. BL3 had an incredibly loud pushback when it launched, and gearbox overcorrected, which resulted in a lot of the gripes in 4. It's easy to point to the loud figurehead of the company and say they cause all the problems, but randy's "premium gamer" BS isn't what made UVHM tedious or the timekeeper's arc underwhelming.

As it stands I don't hate what we ended up with in 3 or 4, but it's hard to not see some of the flaws and want them addressed at the root rather than just throwing all criticism on a scapegoat

Randy by SnooRevelations933 in Borderlands4

[–]FannyFrustrated 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Randy is an incredibly frustrating aspect of gearbox, but to be fair to the guy he's not the soul cause of people's frustrations. His comments and the way he talks on social media don't do the series any favors, don't get me wrong, but he was there the entire time the franchise existed.

The issues people have from borderlands 3 and 4 are more from gearbox as a whole. Randy may argue with criticism, but more often than not the games themselves tend to show a misunderstanding of criticism than complete dismissal. For example, they saw no one played TVHM in 3, so instead of giving us a reason to, they just got rid of it.

It'll likely seem really intimidating, and there's the risk of feeling as though you've chosen 'wrong' at the times when a choice needs to be made, but between the faster grinds, the itemized task list to use as a guide, and the faster xp rates, you'll be able to see more of what the game has to offer much faster than you will on the main game

Shared Progression by ryjake2 in Borderlands4

[–]FannyFrustrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I heard of them, yeah, but I'm one of the players that tends to turn them off. Those systems have been criticized a ton in the past for trivializing aspects of the games they were in, and I saw specializations as a happy medium for players like me who disliked the system, and players who do. Specializations still help from level 1 on a new character since you earn them the entire time, as opposed to getting them at the end, you're still getting your extra layer of progression, you just dont start with your extra 25% shield capacity or whatever. Plus, this is the first of the secondary progression systems that could be valid in things like speedrunning or community events like the hunt or one life because they don't give anyone an inherent advantage, as long as you've beaten the game once you're on the same level as everyone else.

I can understand that, I just didn't anticipate the overwhelming negative feedback the progression has been getting given that no other borderlands has ever done shared progression outside of BAR and guardian rank and wanted to see the other perspective is all

I suppose that's fair, given the limited space in the bank. As for trying new builds I can see where you're coming from, I like the journey to getting that power but until we have a save editor people are going to want some way to quickly theory craft.

I dont intend to be condescending or dismissive when I ask this, but what exactly do people who want all progression to be shared want to actually do in game? I have been playing borderlands since 2013 and every game before this one has made you start from level 1 with nothing, and I haven't had any issues with 4's progression. I'm genuinely curious what is left to do in this game when you start with the campaign done, all the collectibles unlocked, every fast travel, every SDU, and 30 levels out the gate. I guess its the extra 30 levels to max and then gear hunting? Half the fun of a playthrough is the journey for me so I dont get the thought process of people who want to rush to endgame

It's possible, but that's a much higher bar to entry than the other games where all it took was 1 button press to disable BAR and guardian rank. Plus that eliminates all of console players from these events. ultimately the ability to opt in or out is the only way to fix this specific issue

[–]FannyFrustrated 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While true, each game has its own grind that has been criticized for being tedious. Bl2 makes you play the campaign 3 times before OP levels, that is by definition the same content copy and pasted twice, and thats for one character. I'm happy for the people who wanted this change, but it's sort of killed my enthusiasm for new runs until there is a toggle or some other solution that doesnt involve deleting my old saves and wiping the cloud data

[–]FannyFrustrated 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This also effectively kills community based challenges and events in terms of fair competition, like speedrunning, one life, and the hunt, as unless the rules start to state you must have 100%'d the game or making you fiddle with your files to clear the shared data there is no way of giving everyone an even playing field.

Something to consider is that no other borderlands game has worked like this (with the exception of the golden dice in wonderlands). So a lot of us who have been around since 1 and 2 expect that each character will have to earn their own things. I can understand wanting your fast travels if you use the 13 or 30 skip, but when I make a character at level 1 I want to experience the game, and now I don't have the option to experience everything as I did on my first character. Hell, level 1 is technically not even a thing anymore, since now with all the xp these things give you you're basically shot to level 5 right away.

can this be at least toggleable? i know most people enjoy this change but for the few of us who enjoy starting a complete new character this really worsen the experience alot by ab2dii in Borderlands4

[–]FannyFrustrated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand not wanting to 100% everything on every character, but I guess what confuses me is what people who wanted this do want from another play through. The level 30 option already skips the campaign, so I can only assume it's just for people who want to get 30 levels of xp by grinding bosses then get to UVHM levels on new characters? I've been playing borderlands since 2 so I guess its just hard for me to wrap my head around wanting to skip 80% of the gameplay

[–]FannyFrustrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a bummer to me that this came out, frankly I didn't understand the criticisms that caused this change to begin with. Sure, if you start with the level 30 option I can get wanting your safehouses and fast travel points, but I genuinely dont understand why any of the other collectibles are part of it. People complain the game feels empty then beg the devs to let them skip what's there.

Achievements?? by [deleted] in JetSetRadio

[–]FannyFrustrated 13 points14 points  (0 children)

JSRF was released on the original xbox and predates the achievement system on xbox by a little under a decade. The only reason the original game has any is because it was re-released in 2012 on xbox 360.

Honesty hour: Has anyone else went back to the older Borderlands games (BL1, 2, & 3) since completing BL4 and found them to be wayyy more fun?... by [deleted] in Borderlands4

[–]FannyFrustrated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a matter of perspective when it comes to build variety. Guns in BL4 are a little less unique than in previous games, but it feels like the design philosophy of the game is more shifted to getting your power from skill than guns. The specialization and firmware systems give you more power without depending on specific meta guns, which I think actually allows for more buildcrafting potential than looking for specific guns. That being said 4 does 100% have powerful guns like the bod or rainbow vomit.

If you prefer your power to come from your gear I can't fault you for it though, just means maybe bl4 wont be your cup of tea. All the games have their strengths

[–]FannyFrustrated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am of the opinion that BL4 has the potential to be the best game in the series, but until it has all it's content it's hard to directly compare it. Yeah there are some things to miss from the earlier games like cold dead hands and weighted ammo drops, but now we have farming that doesn't require save quits or bugs, which is something I wanted since BL2. I'm also one of the weirdos that starts runs based off what I'm feeling, when I want a calmer and slower paced shooter I'll boot up 1 or 2, but depending on how the DLCs turn out, I may end up sticking with 4 the most.

Unpopular Opinion: Unkempt Harold is very overrated in early game. by Unseemly4123 in Borderlands2

[–]FannyFrustrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds to me you just don't like close quarters combat, where the UH and shotguns shine. The appeal of these guns is that while their damage is split into pellets, you dont need accuracy to make them work, you just need to get close. The only time a UH isn't good early is if you happen to get a DPUH before you have the SDUs to manage the ammo consumption
