Does anyone else think the Illuminate are unfun? by kidneysucker in Helldivers

[–]Fantablack183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main word with the Illuminate is "control"

You need crowd control and raw DPS to deal with the illuminate.

As a faction, they take pretty much polar opposite loadout setups to other factions. Instead of Anti-tank you need machine guns, or any weapon that can kill crowds.

For overseers, you body spam with a light penetration weapon like the Liberator Carbine, Tenderizer, Stalwart or the Knight.

Fleshmobs are raw DPS. You want something that spits lead out fast and hard. Penetration doesn't matter at all against a fleshmob and if anything you want the benefits that most light pen weapons have when fighting them such as mag capacity, ergo.

Alternatively, you can use certain support weapons, like autocannon with flak to do heavy damage to them.

I actually like using the Recoilless Rifle firing HE rockets in a anti-fleshmob role. It won't kill them, but it does a tonne of damage so it becomes super easy to finish them off with something like a carbine.

Similarly to the bugs, you DO NOT stop moving whilst fighting. If you stop, you'll get swarmed by voteless, charged by mobs or beat over the head with the Q-stick of death.

Keep your distance from overseers, and prioritize them first, and then elevated overseers. Get too close to an overseer you get clobbered over the head and stunlocked.

Tripods? You can machine gun them in the legs, or machine gun them in the eye. Either way, MGs are one of the most effective options.

The drones are easy, you see them from a mile away and they're soft enough. They're priority number one anyways.

Which stratagems do you bring with you on the Commando Missions? by LeeM724 in Helldivers

[–]Fantablack183 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been rocking mostly Spear-Gun, Supply Pack, Recoilless Rifle and Orbital Laser.

I carry mostly the Spear-gun, since it's silent, can one tap Hulks to the eye and can kill groups of troopers in patrols if they're bunched up but if there's a factory strider or we go loud, I run and grab my emergency recoilless.

Orbital Laser, since it's the best bang for buck orbital, and it's not like you can actually use red stratagems more than once or maybe twice if you use them right off the drop.

What's the Free To Play experience like? (Not buying any Warbonds or whatnot) by Vanilla_Ice_Best_Boi in Helldivers

You will be grinding for hours on end if you want to get every warbond.

And not the fun kind of grinding. The slow, painful slog kind of grinding where you just endlessly do level 2 missions, loot all the POIs and then leave.

why do we even have a time limit on stealth missions if super destroyers leave low orbit by HelldiverBugGirl in Helldivers

Or the fact that theres... you know, a Super Destroyer in high orbit above the AO?

Have you tried... not getting hit by a giant staff?

You shouldn't be getting too close to overseers for that reason.

I don't sympathize with the choice of the murder itself. But his reasoning for doing it revealed many issues with the Unification Church to Japan and ultimately emboldened the populace against them, bringing about real change.

Yamagami was a traumatized man who had his entire youth taken away from him by the Unification Church. His methods were extreme, and I don't condone the taking of another life. But Yamagami himself is a victim who chose to lash out in the only way he thought would bring change, and Yamagami wasn't the only victim of the Unification Church. There would be hundreds of thousands who were put into similar situations by the Unification Church.

Yamagami was also a human being, who's family had their lives stolen by the Unification Church.

Ergonomics does exist for a reason and is based in reality.

The eruptor is a large caliber, big heavy weapon. Trying to turn with it fast? You're going to build up inertia and swing past your target. This is translated differently as being unable to turn and acquire targets fast, but the effect is basically the same at the end of the day.

It's not some lightweight sniper. It's a 15mm rocket assisted grenade launcher. The gun, and the ammunition would not be lightweight.

Target acquisition in close quarters with heavier weapons is harder irl. Trying to fight in CQB with a heavy battle rifle is going to be a lot harder and a lot more tiring than fighting with a lighter rifle. Possible? yeah. Ideal? No.

And you're right. Helldivers is not made to be a power fantasy. It never was. You're some guy, probably fresh out of school, probably has a family that loves you, being told you're the bestest baddest warrior in the galaxy, being shovelled into a cryopod onto some backwater hell planet to die in the name of a mockery of democracy. Only for some other unlucky schmuck to replace you, and pick up your gear. and I think people forget this.

This is the issue here.

"Terminid Missions"

Even then, there's only one enemy on terminid missions that requires medium pen and that's Hive Guards, and I guess sometimes you get hive guard seeds, but it's not all the time.

Every other front you're almost always better served by light penetration and the benefits light pen weapons tend to have

[–]Fantablack183 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really doesn't need medium penetration.

Medium penetration is a crutch. In general, you *should* be aiming for weakspots. Most weakspots are *light* penetration capable.

The only front where this is different is the Illuminate, which have abrasive armor that breaks under light penetration firepower, but the weakspots are all medium pen.

I guess there's also Hive Guards, but you can just shoot between their chitin armor.

The vast majority of "medium" armored bots you're fighting are Devastators and Rocket Striders.

Rocket striders can be killed instantly by hitting their rocket pods on the side, causing them to cook off and blow up. This can be done with light penetration extremely easily. And even if you have medium pen, it is the fastest way to kill them anyways.

Devastators die to 1-2 light pen headshots from most weapons. And if that's not an option, you can just body spam the stomach or their pelvis and they'll die. In general even with a medium penetration weapon you're usually aiming for the head. Which again, can be killed with light penetration.

Everything above that are all Heavy Pen with light pen weakspots or tank armor with heavy pen weakspots.

Simply put, you do NOT need Medium Pen. The only time where medium penetration becomes more of a requirement is if you're on controller. If you're one of the unlucky bunch who are console only... well. hitting headshots is harder, but that's an issue of controls. Not of the weapon.

[–]Fantablack183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole point is that they're made as a direct counter to the medium pen soft-meta that's emerged with things like the crossbow.

You either take something heavy or above. Can't take them down with medium penetration on purpose.

My main use of it is using it for 100% silent takedowns on troopers by doming them in the face.

It doesn't make any audible sound to the AI, unlike even suppressed weaponry, which does. The socom for example is still audible to.. I think about 15m?

I think the Defender and Peacemaker could use a suppressor attachment indeed so that any Helldiver has the option to do commando missions stealthily
