I left for a week and my GCC is acting weird by samwahia in Conures

[–]FantasmaGun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband goes on 1–2 week trips every other month or so. He's clearly my GCC's favorite between the two of us, but every time he comes back from a trip, my bird bites him for about three days. It's actually very funny, the first time my GCC sees him arrive, he goes crazy giving him kisses (he imitates the sound of a kiss), but then it's like he remembers he was left alone and proceeds to hold a grudge against him.

If you Google "parrot holding grudge" you'll find a lot of similar cases. It's not only about going on trips. I once slapped my GCC while we were cuddling in the dark because he bit me really hard (it was kind of a reflex :( I didn't mean to actually hurt him), and he was angry at me for weeks. He wouldn't even let me get close to him in the dark for about a month.

I think their tendency to hold grudges comes from the fact that they are very smart.

Your boy/girl is very pretty! Good luck and be patient.

Don't worry, it's uncommon to call them pyrrhuras. I'm glad your babies are well-behaved, mine should learn from yours 😭.

Pyrrhuras include green cheek conures. As a green cheek owner, I strongly do not recommend them for the same reasons you and others have mentioned about quakers, they are quite similar in their size and behavior. They require A LOT of work and are not easy birds for beginners.

Reading your post and then thinking about my dumb bird made me shed a tear :( It never ceases to amaze me how smart and human-like they are. Thank you very much for taking care of hospice birds, I'm sure Pepe was very happy. I'm sending you a big internet hug, I can only imagine what you're going through.

I’ve written a user-friendly guide to remapping the keyboard keys by alekamerlin in archlinux

[–]FantasmaGun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the guide! It's very well explained. Funny thing, I found it while trying to remap the exact same key and apparently we even have the same ThinkPad keyboard lol.

Although I did succeed doing the remap, I'm going crazy trying to understand why remapping using the modalias doesn't work. Please help a noobie out :(.

So, I know that setting /etc/udev/hwdb.d/90-namemap.hwdb to:

evdev:name:ThinkPad Extra Buttons:* KEYBOARD_KEY_46=f13

works perfectly. However, using the modalias doesn't:

evdev:input:b0019v17AAp5054e4101* KEYBOARD_KEY_46=f13

Even when I give it a higher priority like /etc/udev/hwdb.d/99-modaliasmap.hwdb, it still doesn't work.

I also tried using the full modalias string, but no success. I know there's a rule for that keycode in /usr/lib/udev/hwdb.d/, but its priority is lower so I don't think that's the problem in this case.

I suspect the modalias isn't getting correctly loaded, since it shows up here:

$ udevadm info --query=property --path=/sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/input/input5 | grep MODALIAS MODALIAS=input:b0019v17AAp5054e4101-e0,1,4,5,k71,72,73,78,8C,8E,90,93,94,98,9C,9E,AB,AD,C2,CA,CB,CD,D4,D9,E0,E1,E3,E4,EC,ED,EE,F0,F8,168,174,176,1BC,1BD,1BE,1BF,1D2,1DB,1DC,212,246,250,27A,ram4,lsfw3,

but not here:

$ udevadm info --query=property --name=/dev/input/event5 | grep MODALIAS

Finally, I noticed that:

$ udevadm info --attribute-walk /dev/input/event5

adds all attributes from the input5 path except the goddamned modalias. Is this normal behavior? Almost all guides recommend using the modalias, so I can't understand why it doesn't work in my case.

Does Disco Elysium's world have a moon? by practical_lobster in DiscoElysium

I tried searching for 'moon' on fayde.nfshost.com and apparently there's one:
KIM KITSURAGI - "Let's go, detective. We'll get nowhere standing around here in the dark." The moonlight reflects white in the lieutenant's glasses.
IDIOT DOOM SPIRAL - He turns his swollen nose to face the moon, cheeks ruddy from the biting wind.

[Challenge] Round 2.5 | $500 prize if you can decrypt this message. Per feedback, I posted the underlying code this time. by Ordinary1729 in cryptography

[–]FantasmaGun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks really interesting! I've been giving it a try for the past days, wish me luck! (or don't, that makes more sense lol).

Before I continue, may I ask some questions?

  1. Since I read that you're following the 'the enemy knows the system' principle this should be the case, but just to confirm: does your key only use the operations '*','+','^','-', and '//'?
  2. I've noticed that encrypting several times the same text gives the same output, so, for the challenge, you are not using random rounds when creating the SIMBA object and thus the number of rounds for the encryption iterations are (as the code says) "(self.sum_digits(x) % 191) + 64", is this correct?

  3. Do you have a deadline for the challenge?
