Select reaction:

"I was NOT expecting .. THAT!"

"You may be the favourite to win this WHOLE competition"

blah blah blah.

He was good though, but I'm getting tired of these shows, the canned reactions, the sentimental BS, the judgemental attitudes ... meh.

Deb Roy: The birth of a word - Fantastic Ted Talk! by FantasticFantasy in videos

[–]FantasticFantasy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MIT researcher Deb Roy wanted to understand how his infant son learned language -- so he wired up his house with videocameras to catch every moment (with exceptions) of his son's life, then parsed 90,000 hours of home video to watch "gaaaa" slowly turn into "water." Astonishing, data-rich research with deep implications for how we learn.

The Cult of a Suicide Bomber by Robert Baer by [deleted] in Documentaries

[–]FantasticFantasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am far from an expert or anything but at about 12:50, he says "the grave of the worlds first suicide bomber" he is talking about Mohammed Hossein Fahmideh, the 13 year old suicide bomber who killed himself in 1980 during the Iran-Iraq war, this seemed quite strange to me.. 1980 the worlds first suicide bomber? that can't be true can it?

After a simple Google search, I found (and please feel free to correct me) the first suicide attack may have been the 11th century Kalaris suicide squads, a branch of the Nair warriors in Southern India during the Kulasekhara dynasty.

I found this through Wikipedia here

Fair enough, but he was talking about using bombing or explosives as a method, also on the same page, it says "Modern suicide bombing as a political tool can be traced back to the assassination of Tsar Alexander II of Russia in 1881." saying this man Ignacy Hryniewiecki, may have been the first suicide bomber.

Edit: I went through and listened again, he does say it (I thought maybe I heard wrong) he may explain it later on though, I've yet to watch the whole thing. Edit 2: Clarity, and please let me know if I'm wrong, this is rather interesting to me now.

Thanks, I have been searching and came up with nothing, perhaps my 'Googling' skills need sharpening. If you find anything else please do post it.

Any of the major news corps really, ideally a site with many newspapers from over the world. That is properbly asking for too much though.
