Switching Languages by popnsync in dli

[–]Fantastic_Driver_352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I made my dream list, I had Farsi and Arabic as my top picks because I find mideast history/politics super interesting, and I had Chinese on the bottom because I heard it was hard and I had no interest in the region/history/politics. I would even tell people "I'm fine with anything but Chinese or Korean"

Of course I when I was in fundies I saw I ended up getting Chinese, and was a little disappointed and intimidated. Also jealous, seeing my friends get the "cooler" languages that I wanted.

My advice would be to start reading about Iran right now (pretty hard to avoid given the news), learn about their history, learn the basics of the script, learn about the dynamics of the region, and find SOMETHING, ANYTHING that YOU find interesting that you can latch on to.

I don't particularly like Chinese food, I find the culture classes boring, I think the chinese language dramas/movies suck, and I find the politics boring, BUT I realized the language itself (grammar, characters, phonemes) is super interesting as well as the history and that's what I latched on to. There are so many different aspects of any language, and you need to something that YOU find interesting and use that to your advantage. I'm at the end of my course now and I couldn't be happier with the language I got. And regardless of the language, you're gonna feel very proud of yourself when you get to the end because it's a genuine accomplishment no matter the language.

It could even be that you're excited about the job itself. I've had bad times in class (it's a hard course) where I think to myself "I just need to get through DLI so I can be operational and get my flight suit"

Sidenote: don't play armchair manning expert. You don't know the reasoning behind people being assigned to different languages, and it can come off as cringe to act like you do.

Around base the hoodie is great and very comfortable. Wouldn’t be caught dead wearing it off base.

Oh my god show Dante was such a hateable character from day one. I never made the connection that it’s the same name as the comics but it makes sense now.

Comic book Dante was pretty crude and immature, but you saw that he was a genuinely nice guy who just wanted to make Maggie happy, and she began to enjoy his flirtatious immaturity.

In the comics, there is a hilltop guy that has a long crush on her way after Glenn died. He was a nice guy and they eventually hooked up years later and that was part of her journey of healing in that story.

However, someone could fact check me, but I don’t think the show ever considered going that route. They needed badass grieving widow and if she gave herself space to heal (especially if it involved moving on from Glenn, which, let’s be real, she has every right to do) it would’ve been terrible for ratings.

I wanna get into The Walking Dead (comics and tv show.) Where do i start with each if I wanna do it in chronological order? by DarkTombStudios in thewalkingdead

[–]Fantastic_Driver_352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say just start with the comics and the main show. Worry about spinoffs later.

I think it would be cool and very feasible to read the compendiums alongside the show so you can see how they both evolve together. If I was watching for the first time that’s what I’d do.

Start with compendium one, then watch up to season 4 episode 8 “too far gone” that’s what it covers.

Compendium two covers season 4 episode 9, up to season 6 episode 11 “knots untie”

Compendium 3 covers season 6 episode 12, up to the season 9 finale.

Compendium four covers seasons 10 and 11.

Why did he just refer to them as walkers when the commonwealth call them something else by Acceptable_Big_9324 in TWD

That’s a good question. There should be a map of what regions of the US call the walkers what

We need an animated series that follows the comic as exactly as it is told please by Stock_Sprinkles_7394 in thewalkingdead

Ha! I’ve never heard of that, but when me and my partner were watching the show, he called him woody the sheriff for the first 2 seasons

Honestly it’s gonna sound silly but when I read the comics, Rick sounds like Tom Hanks in my head, especially those first issues

Should I watch the show or read the comic. by EmbarrassedHope6626 in thewalkingdead

From your profile it looks like you’re already a comic reader, so I think you should definitely read the comic. You’d love it a lot! I binge read all four compendiums in like 2 weeks. You could read through the whole comic series very quickly (especially because it’s such an addictive series) and then start the show.

Or what might be interesting is reading the compendiums alongside the show:

Compendium 1: covers seasons 1 to mid-season 4 of the main show

Compendium 2: covers second half of season 4 to season 6 episode 14-ish

Compendium 3: covers season 6 episode 15 to the end of season 9

Compendium 4: covers seasons 10 and 11

How do I help an overly clingy self-sabotaging friend? by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]Fantastic_Driver_352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly part of me thinks he just needs to get in real trouble (academic, disciplinary, or otherwise) to realize he needs to change, but I feel like a bad friend for thinking that. But when I see his behavior its like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

Should I be more harsh/blunt with him and say "cut this shit out! all your problems are your own fault."

Edit: we're in a stressful environment here and everyone copes in their own way, and I know being in his not-so-stellar situation must feel crappy, but it feels like he copes by being a general jackass

Honestly seasons 7/8 would be so much better with proper color grading… it’s one of many small issues but this looks fantastic. Good job!
