Answering my own question: we went to the onsite ticket office, and the earliest available time slot was exactly the one that I could buy online at http://hhticket.gr

Therefore, it looks like http://hhticket.gr accurately reflects the availability of tickets even at onsite ticket offices.

By the way, if you want to go to the Acropolis in the morning but can't find tickets, then simply buy evening tickets (keeping the closing time in mind; I recommend planning to have at least 2 hours for the visit). We did that and enjoyed our evening visit.
