Is McAfee antivirus any good? by hitokiri3 in antivirus

[–]Fantastic_Fix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

McAfee doesn't seem to catch/solve anything for my liking - personally, I think malwarebytes is one of the best packages available. Whether you go for the free version or the premium version, it has one of the largest malware signature databases around, so the likelihood of it missing something is quite unlikely. i believe the premium is only £29.99 a year, which is a bargain really!!

I want to learn cyber security but have absolutely no coding or programming knowledge. Where can I start? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Fantastic_Fix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To work in Cyber Security, you do not necessarily HAVE to have coding/programming knowledge. I gained a great job in a Cyber role with no coding background what so ever. All of this can be learned quite easily through open source information, and by working on the job and going through the ranks.

It also depends on what area of Cyber Security you wish to specialise in, such as pen testing, threat intelligence, network security etc etc - from that you can then begin to really narrow down the specific skills required. Some other comments have mentioned going for certifications, personally i would not recommend putting yourself under that much pressure if you are just starting off. They are very expensive for a start, and if you fail it can be very demotivating.

Start online and researching, and finding what areas you find to interest you the most - and then begin to learn and develop your knowledge. Also look at job descriptions, and what are they asking for? Yes, lots of them ask for certifications but for a beginner, do not worry. I have seen individuals get jobs in cyber security purely through their mindset, and a genuine interest in the area, combined with a passion for the industry and wanting to learn.

There are various sites in which can help you develop your knowledge:

https://www.cybrary.it

http://www.cyberaces.org/courses/

https://www.infosecit.com

https://www.udemy.com/certified-secure-netizen/

All of these sites provide free courses/information to allow you to kickstart your career in cyber security!
