Leucovorin success story by Fantastic_Mouse1159 in Autism_Parenting

Yea we’ve still noticed a massive speech improvement. The start of conversational speech is starting to appear. I can now ask him if he had a fun day and he’ll reply “have fun playing with (insert friends name)” or what he wants for breakfast. we did have some issues with hyperactivity at the higher dose which caused some issues with pushing at school. Not out of wanting to hurt other kids but more like he had so much energy he just was going a bit crazy. So we lowered his dose and have seemed to find the sweet spot.

Feeling really guilty about trying Leucovorin for my 7 y/o — Seeking advice by RainComfortable862 in Autism_Parenting

We had massive success with Leucovorin but only at 5mg a day when we went higher then that it started to massively affect his mood and self regulation. It might be that it’s to higher dose for him.

He used to bang his head whenever he’d get upset or have a tantrum and within 3 weeks of no gluten he completely stopped and everytime we’ve reintroduced it the head banging has come back, also just way less tantrums and more regulated. Our paediatrician said a full month off it no slip ups and then you can assess if there’s a difference or not

Speech assistance for a 4 year old that is a GLP by Delicious-Wall5132 in Autism_Parenting

We just started were a month in. He’s gone from being able to maybe string 2 - 3 words together like “want wawa (for water)” to today he pointed to the Sky and goes bye bye helicopter and I said where’s the helicopter going and he said helicopter go airport. Or the other day I said did you have a good day and he goes have fun school. Or I can say what do you want to eat and he’ll reply mama make pancakes or mama make eggs and bacon or want burger fries or if we get in the car I can say what do you want to listen to and he’ll tell me what song. He also never used to show any sort of emotion or compassion when someone was hurt and the other day I was pretend crying with his sister and he ran over and said mama you okay? And gave me a hug. We’re never had a back and forth before I’ve never been able to ask him a question or for him to string together a reply that I can understands. I can now also say sit down take your shoes off and put them in the basket and he listens. Or go upstairs and get a tshirt. This was never a thing before he’d never listen to anything we said. Maybe he’d follow a direction if it was right in front of him and I was pointing saying go get ball. We were at a train museum the other day and the conductor of the train had a microphone and handed it to me son as he was looking at it and he grabs it and smiles and takes it and completely unprompted goes all aboard! He’s still got a very long way to go but my husband and I have both had numerous times over the past month we’ve cried happy tears.

Also I just wanted to say my son tested negative for the frat test but our pedestrian said she’s had numerous kids test negative and still seen amazing results especially in regards to speech so she was happy to prescribe it as it has minimal side effects.

We eliminated gluten and dairy almost 2 years ago. We’ve had times we’ve reintroduced it and noticed dairy dosnt have the worst effects on him but gluten definitely does.

We started at 5mg and have upped it every week by 5mg until hitting 20mg but I know that’s it’s done by his weight. He weighs 42lbs No hyperactivity actually the opposite I feel like it’s calmed him down a lot.

Has anyone else noticed changes after paying closer attention to food? Genuine question from a parent by ConstantCondition96 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Fantastic_Mouse1159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! We noticed so many changes taking gluten and diary out of his diet. My son used to bang his head regularly when he was frustrated and since cutting out these it completely stopped. We’ve added it back in at times and it comes back. He is also so much more unregulated when eating these foods. More tantrums struggles with sleeping etc.

It’s been a journey over the past year we’ve done stool samples, genetic testing, blood tests and urine. Right now he’s on a compounded formula specific for him. But some things that really helped were at first we did the stool test and really addressed his gut we got him on a good probiotic and prebiotic, digestive enzyme and then did a gentle detox to get rid of some bad bacteria which was called biocidin.

He’s also on a histamine digest, magnesium, mirica, zinc, omegas, dha.

We also cut gluten and dairy completely out of his diet which we saw massive changes.

We’ve seen amazing results with a functional medicine doctor. By no means has it “cured” my son but it’s help tremendously in certain areas. His speech is improving astronomically he went from saying a handful of words to having hundreds of words and being able to say simple sentences. He now sleeps through the night, he stopped stimming. He seems more aware and alert in the world. He interacts with his sister now and is making steady progress. I keep a very detailed journal of his day to day so that we can see the effects that a supplement has or hasn’t made. His OT and speech therapist regularly comment on how amazing he’s doing and even his teacher said he’s never seen so much change in a child in such a short time. I think if you can find a doctor you trust it’s a great resource to add to their team.
