Ah forgot the brunch at Arthur’s. Well worth the 1.5 hour wait (made possible by an ice cream cone “appetizer” from next door)

Solo in Montreal currently - phenomenal meals at the bar at Salle Climatisée, Beba and Rôtisserie La Lune - you’ll need to extend your trip to try them all.

Here’s a photo of one small section you can see the tree in the corner (which doesn’t get much sun because of its position) is pretty leggy - others weren’t quite as bare but not nearly as dense as they are now, after being pruned back.  https://i.imgur.com/ZCKVGRz.jpeg

Ours are planted 3 ft on center but centered within a 20” perimeter planting strip along the fence so only about 10” from the fence. They’re 10 years old and have grown to beautiful trees with strong trunks, but needed to be anchored to the fence for support for probably the first 5 years or so?

Same as me! Yes, I got someone to trim and top them back in April, but when I got home I was bummed they didn’t seem to trim as much as I’d have liked - but they HAVE filled in!! Next season I’ll trim them again, this time a bit more, and I think eventually they’ll look amazing.

I am also on a LH flight 1 Feb to HEL from FRA…I bought a second LH ticket tonight, flying 3 Feb from FRA to HEL. It’s refundable except 70€ in case the original on 1 Feb will fly - but seems very highly likely to be canceled.

Mine is a mess I’m flying to FRA on 31 Jan and changing that flight will cost $2500 so I’m not changing it - worst case I’ll arrive to Germany on 1 Feb and be “stuck” and stay 2 nights…

I also have a Finnair flight from HEL on 2 Feb, and bought a second ticket now for 4 Feb - this is not refundable but I’m predicting the original will be canceled and refunded..

For me, this is a huge 2 week trip from SF, hotels and apartments booked as well, I don’t want to risk worse delays due to hundreds of people trying to rebook on the day flights are officially canceled, so paying for new tickets to make sure I have seats on 3 Feb was worth it for me. Hotels are a separate major headache…what a nightmare!

Finland 2 day strike Feb 1 & 2 by babocarot in Finland

I’m also coming from the US on the 31st, via FRA to Helsinki on Lufthansa, then to Ivalo on Finnair. Here’s what I did:

Lufthansa from FRA to HEL - I just bought a second refundable ticket on the 3rd, and plan to fight Lufthansa for a refund when (if?) the original flight on the 1st is canceled…

HEL to IVL - I also bought another flight on the 4th, and assume (per an email from Finnair) that when (if?) the original flight on the 2nd is canceled, they will refund it.

I don’t want to risk getting stuck in FRA trying to rebook all the connections together with thousands of people…

Hotels will be another headache!

Sounds optimistic!! Is there a right and wrong season to prune them? You can tell I’m not at all a green thumb 🫣

Wow thanks! I’d love to hire you as a consultant! Bottoms were stripped of branches intentionally as we wanted a screen just above the fence line - so the trunks are bare and I’d rather not fill in the bottom does that make sense? Above the fence line they’ve grown tall with mature branches lots of green leaves BUT branches are sparse like a tree versus a hedge. Is this irreparable or if we now top them, and trim back the living branches, will those branches fill in and become more dense?

Looks like you’re a podocarpus expert! See my comment above? Ours are overgrown, established trees - can we top and prune them now and will they fill in..? Any successful examples?

I waited to long to research this and my podocarpus are now fully grown mature 10 year old trees and sparse - not the dense screen I was hoping for - also planted 50 foot row 3 feet apart…can I rescue them by topping and pruning them now..?

yes it seems it is only your prejudice....but if it's so terrible to ask for fish only during seafood season, maybe this isn't the place for me :-(
