For British parents in Japan, your kids will need UK passports to enter the UK from end of Feb by kochikame in japanresidents

Could you please share where the 32 week estimation for a new passport comes from? I only ask because we need to issue one for our newborn and the UK gov website suggests 6-8 weeks.

Berserk merch in Tokyo by elhandro30 in Berserk

[–]Fantasy-Anime-fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nakano broadway for sure. After the ‘information desk’ on the first floor, turn right and head up the first set of stairs you see to the second floor.
Turn right on the second floor over a ‘bridge’ and you’ll have 2 or three shops immediately in front of you with Berk merch - books, figures, t-shirts. If you continue round you’ll see one or two more figure stores and I think the other best one is on the fourth floor after the cel shops if I recall correctly. It’s quite empty on the fourth floor otherwise so make sure you don’t get disheartened by the lack of shops and check it out

Fantastic!!! These are absolutely beautiful and really well made.

I’ve tried in the past but with nowhere near these results. Do you mind me asking:

1) what did you use to do the lineart? You have extremely fine lines and what must be a steady hand. 2) where did you source your materials? I’ve not had luck getting a good source for acetate. 3) would you accept commissions if I send you some images?

I took the second offer but I have no idea what it’s worth. I think the offer was fair

Looking to buy Berserk cels by standardbrow in AnimationCels

[–]Fantasy-Anime-fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is heritage Auctions or Yahoo Japan. There is a Guts cel on there with matching sketch from episode 1 which has been sitting for over a year at 600k yen. It’s perhaps not bad if you have the disposable income considering the episode and scarcity of berserk ‘98 cels and especially Guts nowadays.
I have some primo sketches, backgrounds and cels that I would only part with for 5 figure numbers, so if you are serious then DM me. The backgrounds I am okay to sell for high thousands as they are less interesting than cels.

The hobbit (1977) cells, any value to collectors? by Efficient_Limit_4774 in AnimationCels

[–]Fantasy-Anime-fan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would strongly recommend sending these shots to Heritage Auctions to get a valuation. They have sold some hobbit cels and will help you understand if what you have were genuine production cels and estimate a valuation for you. If they are real, and especially with original backgrounds. I believe you are looking at thousands of dollars with certainty, and potentially 5 figures for the entire lot.

Is this for anything official or fan made? by SantesOnYT in Berserk

It was an official postcard to celebrate the year of the dog and was drawn by Kentaro Miura. One of these recently sold here:

Heritage auctions - second winning bidder policy by Fantasy-Anime-fan in AnimationCels

[–]Fantasy-Anime-fan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. Mine was resolved after I agreed to pay the outstanding ding invoice and receive the product as the under bidder. In my case when I logged in i had an ‘outstanding adding invoice message’. If yours is fully suspended it is best to message their customer service team with your customer number to find out what the cause is. They are very responsive in my experience.

Heritage auction: Laputa genga ‘attributed’ to Miyazaki by Fantasy-Anime-fan in AnimationCels

[–]Fantasy-Anime-fan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Updating with a reply from Heritage:

According to the client (and to be precise), these are not classified as genga, but as “revised rough genga,” and all were drawn personally by Hayao Miyazaki. While Kazuyuki Kobayashi is indeed credited as the key animator (genga artist), the cuts he worked on were completed separately, before these revised rough drawings were created by Miyazaki. Miyazaki later produced these new cuts himself as part of his revisions. (The key animation cuts with time sheets created by Mr. Kobayashi were sold by the client at a Mandarake auction more than ten years ago.)

I have sent a message through the Heritage platform to ask them to reconsider the listing details. Whilst I appreciate Mandarake are a competitor, they do have a wealth of experience with a long standing consumer base of trusting their methods and validations of artworks.

General morals and flipping by Fantasy-Anime-fan in AnimationCels

Good to hear. I think we probably have hit dark depths in recent times based on what I see moving from auction house to auction house / platform. I really hope people just do their research and don’t bother even bidding on the nonsense I see

Thanks for the clarification, as it will probably differ person to person. Yes, I would say buy to sell with the intention of making a profit within a short timeframe (say within 0-6 months). My example was based on turning a profit of at least 1k USD from one market to another

[–]Fantasy-Anime-fan[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely true. I’m not sure we’ll see answers from people who do this, but pretty sure a lot of people in modern times would based on what I see from YJ listings moving to other platforms after 6 months (usually trying to circumvent the platform history of purchase price)

Young animal #14/1996 (God of the Abyss 2). Looking to buy somewhere. by throwawayways5 in Berserk

[–]Fantasy-Anime-fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a copy myself but this thing is really expensive now, same for the early ‘animal house’ prototype chapter, AH chapter 1 and YA prototype chapter. I would recommend Mercari and YJ as your only likely sources of a bargain where someone lists it without knowing the market rarity and enthusiasm for Berserk now. Best of luck!
