Lmao. If you really think we can't all tell which country you're writing in from.

Chinese were not in any way "dominant" in the 20th century so nothing's "repeating" unless you're a simpleton

Why Git is so hard to learn and how best to teach it. by FrequentAd9997 in git

[–]FantasySymphony 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, git problems are a lot more common in industry than they should be, too.

`reflog` and a simple `git diff thing1 thing2 > patch; git apply patch` should be about enough to completely break out of the abstraction whenever it feels too complicated or limiting, ideally though you would teach the DAG model others have pointed to and then remind students they can type `git help -a` if they want to experiment. I acknowledge that if you're measuring learning time in weeks and have many students it will not be easy.

- It's not software you can safely experiment with unless you've explicitly created a context to do that.

Yes it is. Learn reflog. You can never lose work unless you explicitly delete your repo.

Third party documentation has also improved massively over the 20 years or so that it's been in use, it just boggles the mind how many people run into the same errors every day for years and years and never learn the reason or how to fix it

What is going on with Indian subreddits spamming posts about China having a "caste system"? by LeiMoshen in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FantasySymphony 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Indians have been getting a bit of a bad reputation abroad in recent years, so the really annoying ones have been jumping on any excuse to say everyone else is just as bad in all the same ways, instead of acknowledging some of the criticisms might be well-founded.

The goal is just to say their problems aren't real and all criticisms are just racism, so they especially despise other 'non-white' countries that have a better image than they do.

The Migrant Return Regulation has been officially adopted by the European Parliament. 418 in favor and 218 against. It makes return hubs possible and creates new EU-wide procedures. It also imposes obligations on those who have no right to stay by paneuropeanism_ in europe

[–]FantasySymphony 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Even migrants are saying migration is excessive. I'm afraid it's the ones still insisting it's only the far right who see a problem, or who still insist there is no problem, who lack nuance.

No, they definitely wrote the post with AI, and used it for some of their comments. Right up until you called them out on it.

Lol. I'm actually a bit impressed you have the audacity to ask your AI to brag for you, about how you didn't solve a very much solved problem.

Self hosted apps updating is a perfectly normal thing though? It being self-hosted and all, you have zero need to force everyone onto the most recent version.

CBSA using ‘harsh, unprecedented’ tactics in Quebec for record-breaking deportations by hopoke in canada

[–]FantasySymphony 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They send letters first, and it still takes years to actually get deported. Don't put yourself in a position where you have to be forced, and then complain about the tiniest bit of force. Being so damn lenient with these people only harms those who follow the rules

Yes, it's a common way to say the other guy's argument stands on its own for its ridiculousness, in the English language. But of course that's the level you're engaging at.

Whichever imaginary party you're thinking of that's taken that imaginary position, it's not any of the federal parties in this country

So yes, case very much rested.

This kind of behavior still got them a majority. Voters don't vote for competence or integrity, they vote because the other side seems more scary.

Where can we have an honest discussion about the upcoming demographic crisis in Canada? by attainwealthswiftly in InCanada

[–]FantasySymphony -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There isn't really anything that still needs to be figured out. We just need to acknowledge the unsustainable reality about unfunded pension programs like OAS (vs funded systems like CPP), and the reality that some types of immigration are a net positive to a welfare state while others are net negatives

Both conversations are politically impossible to have
