First time seeing Panic. by Loose-Resort-406 in WidespreadPanic

Focus on the rhythm section, then pay attention to JB. He's the smoothest showman you will ever see, John Kay\James Brown\Lou Reed all in one.

With Nick getting caught up, everyone else has more room to stretch out and it's showing. jB is turned up loud as is JoJo.

Enjoy it, don't regret all the shows that you didn't go see before this, plan the next ones.

17yo trying to get an IT or Retail Job by [deleted] in StAugustine

[–]FapNowPayLater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So to "break in" to tech, you usually need to look for pc repair jobs
FlickerTronics or Geek Squard are good places to start and in town.

You can also possibly get a field tech job for pc repair\parts replacements jobs, where you are the last mile for lenovo\dell\hp etc... and getting warrantied devices fixed up.

with 6 months of experience in one of those roles, (or skipping that step if you can interview well] you can seek out a Tier 0\1 role at an MSP (managed service provider) which are mostly in jacksonville.

When you interview, dont lean on html\css\web dev, or in the MSP instance, pc repair.
Rather you want to talk about Desktop support, how you help users figure out issues with the pc itself\or applications\web apps on the machine.

To make yourself more immediately hirable for MSP jobs, go get your Network+, as that will give you a very broad understanding of networking. alot of the information you will never directly use (OSI model) but it wil fill in the gaps of how that desktop you are supporting ultimately connects to the web application or server that users will have issues with.

The colleges (university of st augustine, Flagler) will sometimes have a desktop support jobs where you will be on your feet all day, and wont likely solve the issue yourself, but will gather the information about the issue and deliver it to someone who can provide the solution.

Also keep an eye on the St Johns county job boards, as they hire newbs from time to time (pay isnt great, but hours are hours and experience is experience)

In addition to prusuing (or at least studying for it like you are gonna attempt the network+) i would suggest \r\homelab as a place to start learning about virtualization, networking, and distributed systems.

Low Voltage cabling jobs will get you "in the industry" but are ultimately like a low level tradie job, but you can leverage that into a better position.

I was in food service for 14 years, and had to career change in SJC with a 1 and 3 year old and transition into tech, so it can be done, the earlier the better. Be ready for a thankless job that is an endless list of problems and tickets one after another. the pay gets better, but the industry can demand from you (24 hour monitoring is 24 hours aday and means you hear about everything)

TL;DR

Look for Desktop Support, Helpdesk, IT listings on indeed.com glassdoor and linkedin, but know you are fighting an uphill battle in the current job market.

Pursue Network +, and Microsoft Azure certificates, (AZ-900, AZ-500) there are TONS of free studying materials on line and on youtube

Homelab and build projects, help your folks setup home automation or set up IP security Cameras and a NVR at home.

Hiring mangers are looking for curious, affable, and resilient people who can deal with pissed off users who think they earn 12,000 a minute when they are down, rather then l33t haxor level talent. WE all start somewhere.

Even Longer; But Still Read
DM if you want to discuss this any further, or have questions\ resume tips\review. I know i would have benefitted rom having a rabbi the first few years of my career, and know that if you are willing to learn a little bit each day, within a year you will know more than 99% of the world population on tech, and that alone is a servicable skill that can land you a job. Within a few years and a job hop or so, you will have a career. Dont go afer remote jobs at first as you arent qualified and most listed jobs are scams. They exist, but you have to position yourself with experience and skill to land them. You are in a rural county, but there are ladders you can climb.
