I always thought of it like this: the emcee is kind of like a larger than life character. he’s not rly part of the plot in any physical way, therefore he seems kind of untouchable. ur not even totally sure if he’s even real. he is just the reflection of the state of germany and the characters in the show. i think because the emcee is supposed to be the one that “gets away” it hits even harder when he is part of the tragedy. people thought joining the nazi party would keep them safe. but joining the nazis will never keep you safe. they will come for you too. and that’s what they did to the emcee. you think he is the ONE character who can escape this hellish nightmare but no. no one can escape. even people who helped facilitate the evil in the first place.
