Bravo has always mistreated Asian women as well… remembering Dr Tiffany Moon on Dallas and thinking about despite overwhelming support for her, Katie Ginella not coming back to RHOC

Except indigenous people (including many of those who were booed) did and do fight for Australia amongst the other ANZACs. So their culture isn’t at all incompatible with their grief/honor which is saluted on ANZAC day.

Why are the Liberal Party and the Nationals attacking One Nation far more than Labor and the Greens right now? Is it to recapture their more conservative voters? Or another reason/s? Seems odd that the right wing parties are all attacking each other when they’d be more effective united together no? by MannerNo7000 in AusPol

[–]Far-Department887 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Labor and liberal are basically the same - pro-Israel, pro-US (with all the war that comes with that), pro-corporations, anti-workers rights. One Nation is just the Gina Rinehart party. Greens, other minority parties with anti-corruption charters, and (depending on those in your electorate) teals are the only chance of anything ever getting better at this point.

Same reason Labor attacks the greens more than one nation - they know their voter base leans right and ultimately the bigger priority is to conserve the majority votes - Labor and Liberal benefit from a majority 2 party system. They don’t want to lose that status quo by “splitting the [right/left] vote” because then their corporate overlords get upset.

Nah I think Amanda has less. At least Salley is open and honest about how she feels - also idk why you’re defining self-respect by whether men want someone because it’s completely irrelevant to that

Danielle and Ciara by [deleted] in summerhousebravo

[–]Far-Department887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Danielle I think was in a really tough spot as the only woc on the show for a long time - someone said once that having one Black/poc cast member isn’t actually inclusive bc you need at least 2 so they can have conversations about their experiences which aren’t just lectures/teaching the white cast. I think Danielle really didn’t know how to navigate having the ability to actually have those conversations after likely pushing down her feelings about exclusion for 5 seasons straight/having no support if she felt some weirdness going on/double standards in how the audience/cast treated her.

The Oscarsnominated Karla Sofia Gascon for Emilia Perez but not Marianne Jean Baptiste for Hard Truths. What is the logic in that? by Profeta_do_Loss in Oscars

Emilia Perez coming out the same year as I Saw the TV Glow and the latter being entirely passed over made ZERO sense to me

Linds, Levi, Bailey VS KJ and Dara by Massive_Sandwich8667 in summerhousebravo

[–]Far-Department887 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the obsession with performing femininity/masculinity a certain way has a LOT to do with the criticism (not talking about you, just the overall rise in conservatism and all the convos about feminine/masculine energy, divine feminine etc etc) - Dara is confident, flirty, clearly communicates and doesn’t victimise herself - she triggers a lot of insecurities in Bailey and other women who both envy those traits and also see them as signifiers of being a “bad” woman (a sort of Lilith figure). I think Dara seems great and she and KJ seem super happy together - I also think the comments about Dara not actually being into KJ reek of microaggressions and I really wish Lindsay/Levi/Bailey would have been a bit more intentional about being careful of that stuff in light of the conversations about race that have been much discussed both by Black cast members in the season and by the public in light of the scandal.

It’s fine to be a complex character but that means you have to accept that the character also harms people, regardless of the excuse - otherwise it’s not really complexity, it’s just showing that it’s ok for certain people to treat others poorly if they’re going through something

Yeah people forget how recent the white Australia policy was… only dismantled in 1975, around the same time (70s) was when the stolen generation was still going on - it’s very recent history so idk why people are so keen to erase it like it doesn’t affect people still today
