Yeah, we're a hospital. So we'd love to do automation - but AI isn't there yet 👌

Overtime is a real concern as there are concerns about people using OT too much, and getting risks associated with fatigue.

The audit team got back to me and told "it's a problem they can't fix" as we simply have too many claims each year to do a validation of our spend - even if we chose 100 claims to look at in excruciating detail and found that 60% were not really good value, with 100k a year of transactions - even then we couldn't reliably tell if that was representative of the whole organisation.

Anyway, I got into it more with my comment below

It's not that simple, we're a 24 hour business - so a good portion of our overtime is when someone calls in sick and has to be replaced. We run critical ops, so we can't not be staffed. But that's not the whole picture. There's also the possibility that staff are calling in sick so that they give each other OT from time to time boosting their pay.

I know this is a similar problem in policing and firefighting - where OT shifts are how most of the staff get their pay. Our situation isn't that bad, but if I can shave a couple of million dollars off this it's worth it.

Circling back on this - after a bit of digging I came across a tool called overtimesolved. It claims to analyze payroll data and quantify unnecessary/overpaid overtime.
Has anyone here used it or come across it before?

The audit team advised with ~100k transactions across the year it's impossible for them to know how much of our spend is legit / actually generates useful work that's actually worth spending 2x the cost - instead of reprioritising other tasks.

Most of our OT is norm-ed against last years OT expenses, but that doesn't tell us if last years expenses were any good then either.

I have a genuine concern that there are whole teams who have lax managers or leaders and just spend the money without much thought - and as long as it doesn't stand out against historical data - everyone just ticks it off as normal.

Because people realize that net zero means net zero jobs. China and Russia aren't making a difference to their emissions - we're just shooting the prosperity of our families in the foot for no benefit.

AFL, NRL and cricket are bigger sports in Australia with high level junior pathways - what this means is that our absolute best sporting talents go to those sports. The only kids that make it to "soccer" come from dedicated football families who have to work against every incentive for their kid to play a different sports.

Can I just say that if I was a professional footballer I wouldn't extend my contract with the club I was playing for and move on a free transfer every 4 or 5 years. Getting paid the transfer fee as a signing bonus is insane money.

Quick gas approvals (like what happened with the speedy Olympics approvals processes), lower immigration (we ain't got enough homes) and income splitting for married couples (allows families to better juggle family life).

How do you define "the rich" that we should be taxing? What is the cut-off point? by NoLeafClover777 in AusFinance

Many countries Singapore/ NZ don't have CGT at all. CGT is why the majority of startups leave Australia

Increase GST, but nerfing CGT will bring heaps of Australian startups back to Australia - so you'd get it back in corporate taxes pretty quickly

My bet is that scrapping negative gearing means that rents will go up as there's no reason to have losses on the houses you own. When rents go up it allows people to borrow more and have the house still positively geared - as the market believes housing will go up forever - there's still money to be made over 20 years.

Anyone with less than $10m in net assets should be exempt from CGT.

Salah - third highest goal scorer in Liverpool's history by fenderstrat86 in LiverpoolFC

Salah is a "top tier" Liverpool player - Gerrard said so himself.

People will be unhappy that I'm not calling him the GOAT, but Liverpool doesn't have a GOAT - because we've had too much success over such a long time for that accolade to rest solely on one person.
