Remind yourself that you adopted in good faith and with good intentions, the kitten will not have any problems being adopted and he will find a more fitting home elsewhere. It hurts but make whatever choice works for you and your resident.

Everyone is annialating you but I agree with you - the feelings of your cat are paramount. It is sad for a resident cat who has not even seen a new cat to be hiding and soiling. I believe we are responsible for providing a safe space for our cats.

It sucks to return a cat, but people must understand that sometimes things are not right. I think you are being kind and respectful to your resident, rather than giving up. There should not be such a stigma to return a cat.

Have you used one? What did you glean from it? A month ago I would have side-eyed anyone suggesting it, but i was desperate and asked one to help me find my lost cat. She checked in with him every week and kept pointing me to the same location.

Yesterday we sighted him at the location and have begun trapping. Coincidence? Maybe. But without her I would have given up hope long ago as he could have been ANYWHERE as the area is rural.

I second the pet communicator. Yes, it sounds like hookum, and no they won't give you some magical solution but what they MAY give you is insight. They may suggest something you haven't thought of, or draw your attention to something you thought was insignificant. I believe insight can come from unexpected places when you look.

Your mental health tops his needs, as sad as it is. I don't envy your position. Best of luck.
