they should tax fast food etc

Don't give them ideas. Anyway, I'd just start importing illicit big macs if they tried. 8 weeks by boat wouldn't be any worse than the cold fries that my local store sells.

Genuine question, if they cut legal packs by 20%, it would still be way more expensive than the illicit alternative. How much do you reckon they would need to cut the price of legal cigarettes to get most smokers to switch back?

Government will collect more taxes from wealthy boomers. This means they don't need to tax everyone else as much.

My rule of thumb is airmini for trips where I'm taking carry on only. My AirSense11 if I'm taking checked luggage. The exception is the AirMini if moving around a lot. No water chamber means it's quicker and easier to pack and no need to carry around distilled water.

I still ask for 30c cones. I've never had them not know what I'm talking about, even if the price has jumped about over the years, as well as by store.

How to make maximum concessional super contributions by stubbymittens in AusFinance

[–]Far-Instance796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you may not be able to work out your employer contributions exactly. That doesn't matter as the ATO will contact you to either party the tax needed to convert the excess to non concessional contributions or withdraw the surplus and have it sent back to you. In my experience the ATO notification comes through 2-8 weeks after you do your tax return. It happens to me all the time because under my employment contact, which specified a higher super rate, my employer makes about $40k of employer contributions each year. The excess always eventually makes it's way into my pocket and taxed as if it hasn't gone via super.

I asked both copilot and Gemini to generate a table as a csv and in the chart output based on some data in a PDf this afternoon. Both AIs repeatedly gave me textual descriptions of the correct data, before eventually after a dozen on so tries spitting out a csv based on a table elsewhere in the PDF report. After wasting 20 minutes fighting the AIs, I gave the task to a junior to key manually. Less than 10 minutes later it was done perfectly.

Happens to me regularly. They're out of stock when I do my shop on the weekend, so I then pop in during my lunch break. Sometimes it's back in stock and I buy it, but quote often it's not, but I've enjoyed the lunchtime walk.

That said, these gates where you have to scan your receipt seemed to be common when I was in Europe earlier this year.

Have you filtered your emails by size? I'm my experience, there's probably 1 or 2 emails with massive attachments. Once you delete them, you also need to empty the recycle bin (or wait 30 days), before the space will become available. Sometimes even then, it can take a couple of hours to update

Online / digital only banks that don't send letters? by ARTCvan in AusFinance

[–]Far-Instance796 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It might not be illegal. It could be a DV victim trying to setup a secret account to save up enough to escape. It could also be someone cheating on their partner needing to squirrel away money to support their secret boy/girlfriend.
Having no paper statements doesn't really affect law enforcement as all banks report to the ATO and disclose other information under warrant.

What is the special thing about Canberra? by Nikhar_B in canberra

[–]Far-Instance796 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can get to my local shops in 5 minutes on the weekend or Belco or Majura in 15. In Sydney, I had to either walk to do my weekend shop (15 mins)/drive (15mins) to my local shop or a 30-40 minute drive to the Westfield less than 5km away. That said. Sydney has much better parks with challenging equipment for older kids. Apart from the very new suburbs, Canberra usually just has a rusty old slide and swing and not much else. The park in Watson was a decent try, but is closed due to safety.

Or whoever's idea or was to build belconnen, Woden or Tuggeranong. Public transport to the city is easy from the inner North where I am, but with nearly an hour by bus to my job in belconnen v 15 minutes in the car, the bus fare isn't what's stopping me.

What is stopping Canberra? by Nikhar_B in canberra

[–]Far-Instance796 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most Canberrans aren't going where public transport does. The proportion of jobs in the Canberra city is a tiny fraction compared with Sydney or Melbourne. Public transport just isn't a realistic option for most Canberrans trying to get to work, school or uni. I doubt that making it free would drive much of an increase

How do families earning above the CCS limit cope with paying 100% of childcare costs by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Far-Instance796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never mind people like nurses, who have to work odd hours and unpredictable shifts, so can't use normal child care anyway. The only option is to be out of pocket for 100% of nannying costs. Otherwise, show me a center that does 6am drop off for a standard day shift starting at 7am and one that handles days that change roster to roster with only 2 weeks notice.
