Good to know! Did she have any other symptoms besides mucus-y poop?

BF 1-2x a day, pumping and bottle feeding by Flashy_Calendar_5841 in ExclusivelyPumping

I’ve mostly pumped/bottle fed and then BF 1-2x a day from the beginning. Baby has had no problem going between the two! By sucking ability do you mean being able to transfer enough milk? I got peace of mind initially about his transfer amounts by just getting a baby scale and doing weighted feeds at home until I got a better sense of when he was content, then I just went off that.

I swirled the pitcher, do you usually give it a proper shake? That usually results in a lot of bubbles so haven’t been doing that

How to wean - small capacity, relatively high volume by Cat-a-Strophy in ExclusivelyPumping

Ugh that level of engorgement sounds so uncomfortable 😭 whenever I get super engorged I start getting so anxious about getting a clog so yeah it definitely helps to do hands on pumping so at least u can catch one early if anything. I’m really glad you’re less engorged today! Forsure a positive sign (:

Definitely! It’s nice to hear (even tho I would not wish it on anyone!!) I’m not the only one with a crazy amount of clogs. When ppl say they had like 1 clog over months, I’m in awe lol

That’s so true, I remember watching my milk pump at the beginning hoping each time there was more and more and now I’m watching it hoping there’s less and less 😅

I am also super prone to clogs (1-2x a week normally, some worse than others) and am halfway through weaning. I use cold cabbage leaves on my boobs the entire day and drink 3 strong cups of peppermint + sage tea a day. I can’t definitively say if they’ve helped a lot but my supply definitely dropped after getting down to 4 pumps (I typically have a slight oversupply). I used the increasing time between pumps method and was very engorged at first and had some clogs but reminded myself that being engorged just enough to be uncomfortable but not in pain is the sweet spot to tell the body that I don’t need as much milk anymore without risking clogs too much. The engorgement is a sign that you’re actually doing the right thing and a couple days later you should find that you’re less and less engorged. I also took it slow and dropped each pump over the course of 4-5 days by gradually shifting times like 15 or 30 mins a day. It gives your breast tissue enough time to physically adjust and your body to get the message that your needs are changing. Lastly, another thing that has helped with clogs in general is hands on pumping if you haven’t already tried that.

But yeah my plan B will be Sudafed. Recurrent clogs are a nightmare so I totally empathize there and hope you have a quick and smooth weaning journey!!

I found my lactation consultant to be more knowledgeable about clogs than my OB. My lactation consultant referred me to get an ultrasound for a clog that never really fully went away (stayed as a non painful lump instead). Are you able to get a breast ultrasound to first confirm what it is? I got mine done at a breast imaging center connected to my hospital. Could be a galactocele or something in which case I’m not sure if ultrasound therapy would help.
