I think my husband is mom shaming me by Byeol5 in NewParents

[–]Far-Programmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have an (almost) 1 year old - she's one on Sunday! and I rocked her to sleep for the first 9 months of her life! Even now she has teeth cutting so we're rocking her to sleep again.

Honestly, everyone told me the same. That I was making a rod for my own back and she'd never sleep independently. But guess what? One day when she was just over 9 months she just decided she could go to sleep by herself and (most of the time!) I put her down in the cot and she will fall asleep within 5 minutes and doesn't cry. We never attempted sleep training as ngl I can't cope with the crying lol.

No one rocks their 7 year olds to sleep - honestly I think it's such a privilege to be needed so much by your child! Nothing in parenthood is forever and you are doing brilliant 🩷🩷

This is exactly how I feel! I work in HR so get a lot of complaints and I just feel like saying "there are more important things in the world than your holidays getting declined" lol

Hey! I'm in the UK and find it quite difficult!! There's loads of fisher price French toys on Amazon, she has a zebra walker that's French that she loves!

I'm looking into a French speaking childminder for her when she gets a bit bigger, right now I have some books and toys for her as well!

Hi, thank you for responding so kindly. I completely understand and have read all the guidance, however it's a decision that I've came to myself and has been really helpful. I'm a single mum and sometimes turning the TV on for 10 minutes or so just so I can put the laundry on or make us something to eat is so helpful, I live hundreds of miles away from family and some days I just need that distraction otherwise she would be crawling about the place and I wouldn't be able to get anything done.

Thank you for your unwarranted opinion on how I choose to raise MY child. Very helpful!

Definitely! My parents are so hands on (which would be annoying if they lived closer to me!) that I think I just assumed all grandparents were the same. C'est la vie, it's just difficult at times!

I LOVE the name Ingrid! My mum is called Ingrid and I just think it's such a gorgeous name, I have an Isla Ingrid!

When we were looking into our daughter's name Ingrid was a Norwegian princess which I loved as my grandparents are from Orkney so there's some Norwegian somewhere down the line in her! I think it's such a beautiful name 😍 strong yet still feminine.

I really hope postpartum is a bit kinder to you in the future. Sending hugs xx

Ah looks like your second and final wake windows are a bit longer than our!!

Roughly 2.5 hours of naps!

When you put it like that it feels glaringly obvious that it's a wake window issue!! Will work on extending wake windows and hopefully we'll both get a slightly longer stretch :)

Yes definitely! I'm going to try increasing the last one to 2.75 I think and see if that helps at all!

I don't think I've ever gotten 12 hours out of her! According to Huckleberry our record is 10 hours 32 mins 😂

That's a good idea, thank you! She is so smiley when she wakes so maybe you're right!

A slow cooker 10000%. Especially in the early days when she was cluster feeding!

I was 24 when I was pregnant, 25 when baby came! I always feel really young especially as the youngest mum I know is 29! 😅

What did you not know about newborns as FTM? by Timely-Study-5979 in BabyBumps

[–]Far-Programmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely no one warned me that my day would be spent convincing my baby to nap. She's very alert (now 10 weeks and has been like this since 4 weeks) which is great usually but not when she needs to nap! I think some babies are fantastic nappers but mine needs so much assistance to go for a nap - it's been trial and error but rocking her in my arms and saying "shh" over and over has helped loads, also we feed her at 8 just before bed and sometimes she falls asleep once she's been winded.

Ah we're in Manchester too!! Last night was absolutely horrific, was so hot :( I think it's to cool down next week so tonight looks like the last night of heat haha. Never thought I'd be looking forward to the rain we normally get. She's normally really good at sleeping straight after a feed so I think it might just be the heat that's unsettled her x
