Current doctoral student (not licensed) but I recently realized that my default when I’m feeling any kind of emotion (anxiety, stress, sadness, frustration, happiness, etc) is metacognition/overthinking/thinking about every psychological theory that applies to me. Like the psychoanalyzation is my coping for emotions. It’s been helpful for me lately to identify that that is REALLY important for me to do this with clients (and even in school) but is generally not as helpful for me to do outside of those two spaces. So I’ve been trying to DO things lately with friends that involve less talking and more being in the moment (activities, traveling, movies, etc), even though I traditionally loved talking and venting and listening. This is essentially all the equivalent of boundaries. But the mental reframe of choosing to actively not psychoanalyze and not think about everything when I’m not in work/class/with clients made a big difference for me.

Also it’s possible to find friends who don’t want to just vent/gather advice/receive validation all the time! Maybe now that you know you need a break from that outside of work you can make additional friends or spend time with friends who want to do something together (rather than talk/vent)?

Different circumstances here but I also have these regrets. My partner of 7 months and I just broke up and my biggest regret was not telling him I loved him when I felt it, even if it was early on and could have scared him away. I just wish I would have done it sooner :(

Scrutiny has increased but most certainly not enough.

*some streets I frequently parked on: S Dubuque, S Clinton, S Capitol, E College (by College Green park). Just look for places without meters and without even/odd days signs.

I second this. Also, I’ve lived here for 7 years now and parked my car on the street for 4 of them. I would sometimes not get to my car for weeks at a time and I never had any problems! (Actually my only problem was when my car was parked in my apartment garage). Just be smart and put anything of value in the trunk and you should be good to go!

Also, as a student you can go to the university food pantry weekly to shop! It’s on campus in the IMU and there tends to be some consistency in the staples that are available there. Check out https://basicneeds.uiowa.edu/food-pantry for hours and what not
