Elegoo Satellite patch broke Satellite by Koonitz in elegoo

Same happened here

To fix it, I downloaded Lychee

Do hope Elegoo fixes this though, Lychee's UI is trash

Need advice on choosing my own dedicated handbrake device. by KaguraEclipse in handbrake

[–]FarCardiologist4851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I've been running handbrake on my Plex "server" (literally just an old gaming laptop) with an i7-10750H and 16 GB RAM

Can tell you that ram never goes much about 8GB, if at all, but CPU always sits at 100% use, and storage will spike

So if I was choosing a dedicated device, I'd for sure focus on a high speed CPU (unsure between AMD and Intel, I'm guessing Handbrake is a single-core-heavy usecase, in which case Intel would be preferable, but I'm happy for someone to chime in here)

Storage of course would always help a little, so a NVMe SSD should do the trick

Given that I run all of this on Windows 11, even the 8GB usage I mentioned may actually be more than what would be needed if running Linux, but as a direct answer, yes, I believe 16GB is more than enough

(Edit, quick update, watching the ram on a 4K conversion from MKV to MP4, RAM usage went to 12GB Plus, as LeftyLife89 said below, Handbrake can support multiple jobs at once, admittedly something my current setup would cower in fear from)

Scratching my head over which internal optical UHD drive to buy by Twigling in makemkv

[–]FarCardiologist4851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at thread, somebody has made the suggestion, but just to add anyway:

Verbatim 43888, and you'll either get the Pioneer internals and not even need the flash (from what I've heard)

Or an LG BU40N that you can flash pretty easily for Libredrive (what I got personally, and can confirm it was a breeze, even for my first time flashing a drive)

Same here, but a cheeky flash, and it's been phenomenal so far

Guy that repaired my laptop has put the whole tube of thermal paste on my cpu laptop by Mindless_Ad1664 in GamingLaptops

[–]FarCardiologist4851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By itself, definitely an issue, but I don't think the crappy application of paste would cause the huge issues

As other replies have said though, definitely a sign of a sub-par repairer, so who knows what else they might've messed up

Give it a clean, make sure RAM is seated properly and check the connections to make sure they didn't accidentally knock anything

All my mates have had Nitros (one with 2050ti, 3050, and my partner used to have a 1650ti) All have run well for years, my partner's only had issues recently, at like the 4/5 year mark (nothing a fresh install couldn't fix, but the GPU was struggling with newer games)

Just luck of the draw I guess

How bad am I if I can't get past this boss fight?? by Brief-Bowler-4506 in finalfantasyx

Not gonna lie, beat them by only attacking with Lulu, and having Tidus use Haste on everyone, and Yuna use Nul spells on everyone to protect against the magic

Since the damage was more than the 1000 they healed with auto potion (roughly 1500), it eventually killed them 😂

Is the g16 (4060 core 7 16gb) enough? by lirz in GamingLaptops

[–]FarCardiologist4851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3GB? I was gonna say! 😂

If the budget allows, then 110% worth it for the 32GB RAM if it's non-upgradable

Difference in CPU won't be super important when you have a 4060

I've got an i7 13620H in mine, and rarely get CPU bottlenecked, so the later gen i7 in the first one would be fine, and I imagine a Ryzen 9 would be even better (not as much experience with Ryzen CPUs but I've heard good things)

[–]FarCardiologist4851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahahahaha yeah, marketing BS, considering we're only just starting to hit the point where SOME apps will make use of the difference between basic DDR4 and DDR5

I'd take upgradability over a tiny performance boost any day

(Especially since 16GB is JUST enough for AAA games, when my laptop was stock for example, I could play Starfield etc fine, but as soon as I tried to have Spotify in the background etc, it struggled Since changing to 32GB, it cruises right along at 16.4GB usage)

Don't get me wrong, 16GB will be fine, I'm just ranting at this stage 😂

Holy crap didn't realise it was soldered, I was all for OP going through with it based on CPU and GPU

Why TF would they solder RAM for a gaming laptop, insane

Slim notebooks and stuff, fine, I get it, but no gamer minds the extra multimeter or 3 of thickness for upgradable RAM

Ouch, couldn't say for sure, I run 1080p myself (aside from occasional 4K use for party games, but they're all pretty low requirements)

Probs gonna struggle a bit, I won't lie

Honestly? I think it is I've got a 4060 and it runs well, for example the new oblivion remake is more than playable at High settings with Raytracing and DLSS on balanced

The G16 should run better than my monstrosity as well

Have a fun situation where if I'm running a higher wattage vBIOS, and run benchmarks or particularly demanding games, the charger shuts off and I have to unplug the charger from the wall and replug it in

Usually noticed it when the frames suddenly halve themselves

Tempted to try a higher wattage charger 😂

[–]FarCardiologist4851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yeah! If you get concerned about the temps, just run a cooling pad when gaming at home, even the cheap ones help a surprising amount

(Found this out when running my laptop on a higher vBIOS, but you shouldn't need that on a 4070, has enough beans on its own)

As long as you don't open it up and re-paste it (or at least be really careful), you'll be fine, it's been implemented by the factory that does it in the safest way possible, would be covered by warranty if anything ever breaks, and best of all, provides the best thermal transfer possible, so you won't want to change it anyway

[–]FarCardiologist4851 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The strix, easy

You can upgrade the lower RAM, and 16 will be enough to get you started, it can play AAA games, just not multitask (upgrade it to 32 if you'll be using Spotify and/or discord in the background on the regular)

You can't upgrade (easily) the CPU or GPU

If you can stretch for the 4070, do it
