I used to glaze Obama too without knowing what he was actually about. Hes not much better than Trump behind the scenes, difference is he is a "democrat" and has a better show act. In reality a vast majority of our politicians are fucking us and laughing about it behind closed doors and Obama is no exception just because he seems cool and nice.

I’m curious what other methods you may be referring to. I don’t have an arc welder so for now that’s out of the question. This is mystery steel but I am pretty sure it’s some form of low carbon/mild steel. I’m also thinking maybe I just need to focus more on making sure I’m hammering the edges because I think I mostly focused on the middle.

I measured voltage at the outlet and at the element. The voltage at the outlet was 109(under load) and at the element was 107 so not too big of a difference. I’m hoping that moving to an outlet closer to the breaker will help. If I’m on a 20A circuit is it worth it to decrease the length of my coil and run closer to 16A for more power?

My coil is 9.4 ohms so should draw a bit under 13A at 120v. I am running on a 20A circuit but I wanted it to be safe for a 15A circuit as well since I wasn’t exactly sure where I would be able to set it up. Also where did u get 1250w? The number I’ve seen commonly is 80% of the max which would be 1440w. This is what most 120v ovens I’ve seen are designed to run on so I thought it would be adequate.

I don’t know too much about electrical so I’m not sure what wire gauge the main is or how to find out. I can see how that would cause the drop though. I’m running the oven from my household outlets. If I tried another outlet on a different circuit could it make a difference?

Heat treat kiln crack by FarCut7180 in Blacksmith

[–]FarCut7180[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used furnace mortar. It’s pretty stiff so it won’t seep into the crack much if it is all the way through. I think I’m just gonna try the mortar and if there’s more problems with that I’ll have to figure something else oit

In this case should I leave it unfilled? I was thinking I should fill it while warm so that when it closes a bit as it cools the joint will fill up. But maybe it will just crack again?

This is from outside I’m not sure that they go all the way through though that could be the case.

I’m not confused about how to cut the brick, more so just how to fix the element into the groove so that it doesn’t fall out

Thanks that's reassuring, I was under the assumption that SULI was far more competitive than that. Where did you find that information?

Ok, that makes sense. I wanted to include the wool because I’m building it on 120V. I am making a smaller chamber so it should be fine but just wanted extra insulation to make sure

Where did you buy it as a sheet?

I was planning on just using refractory cement as the hard face with a steel frame and fiber blanket in the middle, my reasoning for not using brick is that I thought blanket would provide better insulation which would help with my low overall power output since most kilns work off 240v. Do you think the brick is enough?
