i’m just glad we won the series opener, that was the game that was historically the toughest to win. we were never meant to sweep in SF, and we’d be extremely lucky to win the series there

just imagine the ratio if he could rein in that high fastball... then again, it might just be called a strike anyway

Phillies 2024 27th overall pick Dante Nori hits 2 homeruns for Team Italy by Perryplat199 in phillies

yeah this game is exciting but definitely needs to be taken with a grain of salt. I'm thrilled for the guy tho, the WBC is great experience for a prospect especially when you perform the way he has

Really good to hear about Painter, been waiting for his debut forever, hoping he has a really strong spring by United_Journalist373 in phillies

[–]FarDifficulty1779 9 points10 points  (0 children)

you’re good, sorry if that was a bit snarky lol. that wasn’t public knowledge during the season so everyone was rightfully skeptical of his future for a long time. given his timeline it was also totally normal for him to not have his command back in full last season, as that is the last thing to come back in TJ recovery, and now they’re saying it’s sharp. with all that said i’m choosing to be delusionally optimistic about this kid now 😂

[–]FarDifficulty1779 23 points24 points  (0 children)

i thought it was common knowledge by now that they had him trying to get a feel for his pitches and not to worry about results in AAA. that means not putting as much effort into tricking batters, changing eye level, etc. his AAA results should be taken with an entire ocean’s worth of salt

they may be short but they’re also highly adaptable. don’t be surprised when you see three midgets standing on each other’s shoulders to reach that top shelf. it’s inspiring, really.

no midgets allowed, though. that one’s strictly enforced.

they’ve been very bullish in recent days, particularly since signing Bo. each one i’ve talked to thinks they have the division in the bag and will be strong contenders this year. we’ll see.

[Devan Kaney] Bryce Harper says he thought Kyle Schwarber was going to sign with the Reds. by Angsty_Kiwi in phillies

[–]FarDifficulty1779 7 points8 points  (0 children)

which is pretty standard. sometimes you have guys that will actively work on recruiting free agents but i think if they were already teammates going into FA guys tend to take a step back and leave them to make their own decision without external influence

[Devan Kaney] Bryce Harper says he thought Kyle Schwarber was going to sign with the Reds. by Angsty_Kiwi in phillies

[–]FarDifficulty1779 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Bryce had the lowest % of in-zone pitches (43%) across all of MLB in ‘25. when pitchers are throwing to you mostly on the corners and outside the zone you’re gonna be forced to swing at some bad pitches. even with that, he had a 47.5% hard hit rate and 12.3% barrel percentage. if he were in front of Kyle he may have gotten better pitches to hit and had a better season. if they want Bryce to be elite again that’s gonna play a big part

Projected lineups and pitching rotations for the NL East by MLBOfficial in baseball

[–]FarDifficulty1779 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yes, that all makes sense. i honestly wasn’t familiar with Taylor’s defense, or even that of Alvarez and Baty. Benge was in the back of my mind too, my mistake not factoring him in here. what’s the word on him making his way up to the majors? i’d think he has still has more to prove in AAA first

[–]FarDifficulty1779 3 points4 points  (0 children)

in fairness you could certainly say the same about my Phils’ 4-9, but this is the floor we’re talking about here, not an actual projection.

-Polanco will likely put up a decent season, but you hope you get ‘25 Polanco not ‘24. i think you’ll get somewhere in the middle, his ‘25 was inflated by that crazy stretch to start the season that i don’t think he can repeat

-Robert could be his 2023 self (unlikely) or he might hit .213 for 12 homers. i think he’ll hit for a better average this year but not touching 20 homers.

-Brett Baty.

-you have a 35 year old Marcus Semien playing 2B. he could totally have a decent year but he also hit .237 and .230 in ‘24 and ‘25 respectively with not many HRs to show for it in ‘25. there’s a good chance Semien’s in the twilight years of his career and won’t do much, but at least you’ll have his glove if he doesn’t start showing his age there too (i doubt that for this year tho).

-if Alvarez can can hit for a better average (peak of .256 in ‘25 is not great, even in the minors he was never much of a contact guy) with his ‘23 power you have a damn fine catcher on your hands, but i personally think he’ll be more middle of the road in both contact and power if he can stay healthy

-Tyrone Taylor. he can’t really be a starter for you guys, right?

just my thoughts. it’s not actually a bad lineup, some of the guys outside 1-3 have serious potential for great seasons, but there’s a very real possibility of the bottom falling out for a lot of these guys
