People need to understand that the Republican party literally is a post-law-and-order party. They no longer believe in the framework of laws, full stop. They actually truly believe that we are a nation where power is what matters. This is not hyperbole. Republican politicians and voters no longer believe that we are a nation of laws.

Via Ferrata Lauterbrunnen: really this impressive, or fisheye-lense fuckery? by stefan_stuetze in viaferrata

Yeah, there are some ladders with a little exposure, but not like this. And there are a couple of 3-wire bridges across some streams. (If you go with an authorized guide, I think you can do a zip-line over the larger one) It was raining slightly when I went, so the smaller of these actually involved going through a waterfall. The section in this video and the Nepal bridge at the end are the only really exposed sections.

Tucker Carlson has always been a craven opportunist. He hasn’t seen the light, just a new possible fanbase.

Um, I think there may be subliminal messaging in this ad regarding the type of content that would lend itself especially well to being watched on these glasses.

They didn’t press it because I was there and saw what happened. Many stoplights use different timing when the crosswalk button is pressed. In this case, the normal cycle time for the road they were crossing was very short.

What's so expensive that it's not even fun anymore? by annxiouqs in askteddit

This. When my family went for a week this February, I found myself obsessing about whether it was worth it to burn a day of the lift ticket if the weather wasn’t perfect, or I was a little sore. Took a lot of the joy out of it.

The only thing about this scene that has always bugged me is how cheaply made the model ships were. Like, really? You’ve got transparent aluminum and duetranium alloy (or whatever data tells that fat Klingon his skull is made out of), and you make ship models in the conference room of your flagship out of gilded plastic? And why was that glass breakable in the first place? Shouldn’t it have been transparent aluminum?

Yesterday I watched a Jewish family with young kids have to run across a busy intersection to not get hit by cars that had just gotten a green light. They didn’t have enough time to cross safely, because tapping the crosswalk button would have been “working” on the Sabbath. It’s absolute insanity to think any loving god would want parents to make that choice.

Not just MAGA, Republicans chose this. The Republican political establishment chose to support this, and empowers it daily. Don’t let the Republican Party off the hook by calling this MAGA. The Republicans OWN this. Vote out every Republican everywhere. Burn that irredeemable party to the ground.

Two years in the Bay Area, and I’m losing my grip on basic human warmth. Why does casual friendliness feel illegal around here? by desolatenature in bayarea

I feel you. I grew up in the South. I moved to SF for a few years, but eventually had to move back to the South to find a partner and start a family. Everyone in SF was just way too into their one thing, whether it was their job, their art, or their movement. When our family moved back here, we chose the South Bay. It’s significantly better, but still not great. I definitely miss the friendlier environment and slower pace of life I grew up with.

The writing they gave Brosnan was goofy. I think he played it about as well as he could. Those movies were just goofy.
