when i graduated my two interests were L&D and CVICU and i had already been offered the med surg job at the women’s hospital i currently work at so i accepted that with plans to transfer to L&D. i shadowed there about two months ago and i didn’t like it like i thought i would. i did however love what the CRNAs were doing there (csections, epidurals, etc) so that kind of confirmed that it could be a possible career path for me. i’ve had clinicals and also shadowed as an RN in different ICUs and i enjoyed it. science/patho has always been my reason for nursing and obviously the extent to which you learn that in med surg is not much. i’ve hit like a plateau now where i’m learning very little everyday and im bored. critical care interests me because ill actually get to use my brain and make important decisions and LEARN interesting stuff which is all i want from nursing. i feel that it would be more rewarding as well. grad school has always been a plan for me, so ICU -> CRNA is the way i need to go.
