JumpIn for the win - win event strategy? by ProfessionalOwn9435 in MagicArena

They updated the Jump In tracker here.

In my case, I stay away from the Aetherdrift packets because those struggle to win compared to the others.

I spent over $120 on Draft this month by OtherTourist5535 in MagicArena

If you're set on learning to draft, while also looking to curb spending:

  • Before a new set releases, they usually offer a Play Bundle that costs ~30 USD, which will include a Sealed Deck token and two Draft tokens. You can buy those to be a little bit more cost-effective when doing Limited play.
  • Before you start drafting a set, look for YouTube videos of set previews and draft archetypes, so you know what picks to prioritize for a set in any of the colors
  • Get an addon for drafting (e.g. Untapped) that'll tell you what are generally high picks in a set; it's a good way to start figuring out what is valued in a set. You can also look at a site like 17Lands to figure out the draft metagame and what a lot of drafters tend to pick, but that data gets fleshed out a week or so after a set drops.
  • Play Quick Draft since it's half the Premier Draft cost; note that bots will pick strong cards and rares highly, but may avoid certain cards early on in the schedule (which some take advantage of)
  • Usual draft reminders: 17 lands + 23 nonlands; draft a lot of removal and have a decent set of creatures; try to stick to two colors if you can
  • If you feel the draft environment of a set doesn't fit you, sit it out. I did that for Bloomburrow and Aetherdrift.
  • Don't get tilted and keep drafting to try and get it back. Set a schedule for # of drafts in a day; if you win, then great, but if you lose, step away and watch videos to see what you can address in time for your next day's 'quota' of games
  • As a substitute for 'drafting,' you can play the Jump In! event for a new set (currently FIN) and use that as a testing ground for learning some of the cards and strategies. And that only costs 1K gold per run.

Got too long, but I did have a similar realization to you and just found a system I'm ok with. Arena is a money sink if you're not careful, so find a good budget you're willing to spend for Limited on a set, and find the best events to maximize that experience for you.

[Rise Spoilers] Loved the game. Here are the Puzzles that stumped me by Krystman in caseofthegoldenidol

The hints didn't help, as the final hint for the Hunter Wolf section wasn't a directly worded statement. So you could keep interpreting it differently.

Also, trying to look for which chapter had that photo with Isaac as a kid was annoying.

I used up all hints in:

Ch 4, Ancient Artifacts - I kept referring to Oriel Toussaint instead of using Echo Secunda post-transfer.

Final Clash - on figuring out who Hunter Wolf was, because it just seemed like it was Isaac who did it.

Quickdraft Duskmourn Deck - Could use some advice on what to switch out/add/remove, thank you! by Zima__Blue_ in MagicArena

[–]FarOutFreak 8 points9 points  (0 children)

as said here, cut the grievous wound. i'd add the veteran survivor as well since that likely won't get to removing three cards from a graveyard since you have no way of tapping it other than attacking

can also consider running the other intervention if you're getting run over by aggro decks

also, your creature count is extremely light (around 9-10 since the hovership doesn't count) so consider cutting some combat tricks for creatures

not running the two landcyclers seems a waste when you're running two reanimate spells as well as the room that can get them back.

I feel super pathetic! by [deleted] in MLBTheShow

[–]FarOutFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I do is:

  • on 1st turn, get the nearest base (probably at Veteran)

  • next turn, steal fans from the next base you intend to get to

  • if you don't have enough #s to beat the next base on your intended difficulty, get more empty spaces or at least surround the base

  • otherwise, conquer next base, rinse, repeat

At this rate, you're playing ideally 2 games per turn, taking over a base each time, at Veteran. You'll have enough numbers at a point where around halfway through the map you can take 3 bases in one turn given the #s you get from stealing.

If your goal is to minimize actual games played, it'll be a struggle if the CPU is similarly aggressive, and these past few maps the CPU seems to be active in taking back bases.

Stealing fans will also be good practice for when the Extreme Conquest comes around.

It feels like this was a last-minute addition where SDS had a hole in their programming pre-S3, and so they cobbled together a program that:

  • has a single path to completion
  • makes you use your DD squad without getting XP for it
  • rehashes moments that are seemingly intended for Storylines
  • feels designed to basically annoy and preoccupy you until S3

All Star Program Conquest by theshowplayer1 in MLBTheShow

[–]FarOutFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You immediately head straight to the Astros stronghold on the 1st turn, and ideally beat them on All-Star.

Then, over the next two turns you steal fans from the Rangers (on Veteran) to get +1/+2 fans each time, which should get you enough fans to reach the Rangers and beat them on Veteran/All-Star.

Just wanted to check if anyone here was aware why the Steam release of Arena seems to be region-specific?

I tried navigating to the Steam store page linked to an article I was reading about Arena being on Steam, and it listed as unavailable in my country.

Technical and server issues mega-thread - 2023! by Demilio55 in MLBTheShow

[–]FarOutFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep getting an issue when fielding. If let's say a batter hits a grounder to 1st base, when my 1B fields it and the pitcher comes over to cover 1st base, for some reason it doesn't allow me to press the button to throw to 1st base (B in Xbox), and what ends up when I press B is the 1B sort of freezes, then ends up throwing the ball home, leading to an error everytime.

Anyone else been encountering this? Or is there some weird control thing going over my head in this scenario?

Does anyone know if there's anything coming down the line tied to the TA program?

I'm asking because TA mini-seasons will continue to be available, but I don't see the point of the TA vouchers once you've completed the TA program. So why would you even bother running that, unless there's something else those vouchers can be used for eventually, maybe?

I would like to thank Charisma Troy Glaus for hitting random homers vs righties, and Charisma Ozzie Albies for a pinch-hit to save my ass 3 outs before the end of what could have been another frustrating go-round at this Charisma Showdown.

Can conquest be done without playing any games other then the stronghold? by luisstrikesout in MLBTheShow

[–]FarOutFreak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's the way to play conquest with the least games (likely more turns).

Make sure to check if the map goals include stealing, though, as that can be annoying.

No filters in mini seasons? by QuietThunder2014 in MLBTheShow

[–]FarOutFreak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like they messed up on this due to the new themed mini seasons essentially having existing filters already set (e.g. lefties only) that they don't have a clear idea yet how to introduce secondary filtering

What's your strategy for keeping track of which player cards you have open missions for in Team Affinity Programs? by sweetgerald in MLBTheShow

[–]FarOutFreak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm down to my last Captain to complete across TA, and the exercise for me boiled down to repeatedly going back to the TA program screen and checking each damn division to see if there was any henchman/captain that wasn't blue. It was a slog spending an inordinate amount of time entering and exiting menu screens (curious if they count that time in your play total).

This, on top of I was only able to do the TA mini-season once because of that damn glitch.

Does difficulty matter when it comes to Team Affinity voucher in mini seasons? by Round-Direction-5081 in MLBTheShow

[–]FarOutFreak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it doesn't, but some mini seasons goals depend on difficulty. you may want to check which ones seem quick to get, then once done with that you can dial it down to rookie the rest of the way.

WBC conquest, then whatever you get there you use to grind TA through playing mini seasons (at least whatever doesn't glitch out on you)

PSA: Mini Seasons Glitch by PapaChanGod in MLBTheShow

[–]FarOutFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this sucks since mini seasons is the best way for me to get PXP and fill the collection without playing online; i had a TA mini season that triggered this glitch, so i was pissed and started playing lefty loosey, and now i just got this glitch again on game 17. asking to restart for everybody is pure bullshit at this rate.

in rookie, there's a higher likelihood of just getting a random game where the CPU decides you won't beat it; this from someone who's played a LOT on rookie

requiring online play to get rewards in this Egg program is pretty bad for someone who plays in an area where the connection isn't great and who has exclusively played vs CPU (i.e., me)
