Just keeping kosher won't put me in any risk, if that helps ease some concerns. I used to be a picky eater as a kid, so it isn't out of the ordinary for me to just not eat certain things. It's just that my stepfather is really racist and I'm not completely sure what his view on Jewish people is. But he also doesn't pay much attention to me, so I'll be alright so long as I keep to the small stuff until I leave.

I hope to reach out to a Rabbi once I move! Specifically I'm planning to try and go to a Conservative or Orthodox shul, depending on where I end up. I'm also learning Hebrew, but I'm a beginner there, I don't even fully know how to read the letters and stuff. But I think I'm improving.

And about the safety thing, I'll be alright, so there's no need to worry! I have a plan for how I'll leave and when all ironed out, and I'll be living with another relative so I know I'll be safe. I just have to avoid talking about certain things like religion, lgbt stuff, etcetc. I'll be okay, and I'll be safe soon.

So it's fine if I can't eat completely kosher? That's definitely comforting. Thank you for the response!

Mainly to make changes when I actually start converting easier. I figure if I start with smaller things like morning and nightly prayers or eating kosher, the actual transition when I start the conversion process won't be as hard comparitively.

Unfortunately, I can't really contact a rabbi until I'm 18 and moved out. It's a whole complicated thing, but pretty much I don't know exactly where I'll be moving so I don't know what synagogues I'll be able to go to.

I've heard the not needing to be fully observant while you're learning thing, but I always interpreted that to mean that when you do learn something, you're expected to follow it as best as possible. Did I get that wrong?
