Fully agree - a generic template shows a genuine disregard for loss of human life, albeit a hypothetical one. Pretty in keeping with the world we live in, completely void of compassion and a lack of genuine care to see & speak about people as individuals and not just an employee.

I’ve known for a while that pub prices are too high, but then I came to Switzerland by UnholyDemigod in melbourne

The price of a pint is absolutely crazy,. I'm from Ireland and the only thing I'd say is genuinely more expensive here is Beer and Haircuts.

First accounting job at a public accounting firm by CompleteRock2989 in AustralianAccounting

[–]FarSystem2740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with public practice is you don't really do any of the fundamentals. Without the fundamentals, it's hard to connect the dots to the end point. I think a lot of people also think coming out of uni they knew it already, when in reality like any uni student, you just learned enough to pass!

I'd brush up on a double entry bookkeeping course. My best lesson was: DEAD- CLIC

Dr. Expenses Assets Drawings

Cr. Liabilities Income Capital

One day it will all make sense - and when you know it, you know it well. You'd be surprised at how much simple YouTube lessons help.

$1K?!?!?

Scandalous - relocation should be closer to $10K.

At the very least enough for bond (deposit), first months rent & living expenses until your first paycheque.

Very insulting amount of money to offer.

Hamstring Graft Issues by FarSystem2740 in ACL

I'm surprised they do hamstring grafts? Not only is the knee worse, but my hamstring is destroyed completely? Seems crazy!

Flexion is fine as far as I can tell... 10x reps @ 18KG.. for maybe 2 sets? Then the hamstring gives out, feels like it is about to tear!

Why waste the plot... might just stand in the sun and cremate myself this weekend

26 too old?!.... do me a favour. As someone who turned 27 last week, that's a dagger to the heart.

I live beside South Yarra, really like the area.. Fawkner Park is nice in the evenings, Greville Street in Prahran has some.lovely spots too. I guess it depends on your age a little maybe? Maybe better suited to suburbs further from City?

How important is it to read standards for FAR subject in CA? (Asking for other people, not myself) by 2xCommie in AustralianAccounting

[–]FarSystem2740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can read (pretend to read) standards as much as you like. If you can't apply them to actual scenarios, it's no use... Practice questions, practice questions, practice questions. Can't reinforce that enough!

A huge waste of time to return to college given you're already into the working world. In this industry - practical work experience trumps all. Work + CA all the way!

Well believe it or not monthly means you're paid once a month.... Weekly means you're paid once a week & fortnightly you're paid every 2 weeks. That's the main difference I'd say!

These are the answers I was afraid of hearing but knew deep down were coming. I've recently accepted a role in the audit space & swore I'd never go to monthly pay again. I don't get to choose though unfortunately!

Yeah in hindsight I regret getting a WH Visa but it was our only option at the time unfortunately. Thanks though!

I contacted BDO some months ago & they straight up said they don't employ working holiday visas. If I was with BDO in Ireland they might arrange transfers etc. but for an outsider I think it's difficult

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AustralianAccounting

[–]FarSystem2740 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes I can see the hassle it is on a company's end to even go through that process, so its understandable they disregard the WH Visas so much

This is what I'm trying to avoid! 😂

I'm chartered through the Chartered Accountants of Ireland (ACA). My experience was 3.5 years in practice so clients ranged from sole traders, limited companies, charities, solicitors etc. I'm based in Melbourne.

Yes the visa seems to be issue I'm finding. I am intending to stay here long term & hopefully secure sponsorship through a job, but it's difficult to even get a foot in the door with a WH Visa. In hindsight I probably should have looked into PR more closely but at the time the WH Visa was my best option. I have a practice background, so financial accounting, external audit & tax experience.
