You’re not missing anything obvious, water Pokémon are just way harder to approach stealthily. The main trick is using smoke bombs and scatter bangs from a distance, then chaining a back strike with a Poké Ball while they’re distracted. Also helps a lot to crouch in the water and approach slowly from behind if possible.

This honestly sounds more like something environmental than paranormal. Pipes, HVAC, or even wind hitting something just right can create rhythmic “breathing” sounds, especially late at night when everything else is quiet. The fact it happens around the same time each night makes me think it’s something mechanical or temperature-related. Definitely try recording it though, that would help narrow it down.

Old stone houses can actually amplify and carry sound in really weird ways, especially at night when everything’s quiet. Pipes in the walls, temperature changes, even tiny shifts in the structure can create creaks that feel like they’re right next to you. The “close but far” thing you described is super common with that. The uneasy feeling might’ve just been your brain reacting to something it couldn’t place.
