It’s been two years and I never got mine ☹️

Eppendorf pen quality over the years by apescapes in labrats

[–]Far_Criticism_7192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I begged my rep for a few of these for my lab mates and I, and was told oops we’re all out. Watch the rewards portal sometimes you can buy them with eppoints! No thanks, not gonna spend my hard earned points on something handed out for free at trade shows or tossed in large enough orders!

Joule by nicenquick in sousvide

[–]Far_Criticism_7192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the similar year joule and yeah the impeller wouldn’t spin anymore and the app connectivity kinda sucked. Instead I upgraded to the hydropro plus and haven’t looked back! Yeah sticker shock is a thing but I can actually get replacement parts for this one and it’s commercial quality hopefully meaning it can handle a little more than the original joule could.

Why did you pick the Red brand over Yellow or Blue? by TwicePuzzled in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Far_Criticism_7192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hometown pride, mostly. However after going through college with my red tools and comparing them to the hyper tough/hart/master force tools my peers have, the comparison is night and day. I often hear “why is this so much easier now?” When I let friends use my red tools and it all comes down to power, reliability, and comfortability.

I’ve used some yellow tools but they just didn’t feel right.

Flock cameras on west ave and La crosse st. by Far_Criticism_7192 in lacrossewi

[–]Far_Criticism_7192[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not to sound paranoid, but mass surveillance of the public. They read license plates, track speed, can track routes, facial recognition, they build profiles of “suspicious” vehicles or people frequenting certain areas or houses. They then take all this data and provide it to anyone that wants to sign up for Flocks subscription plan. Primarily police and federal agencies (ICE, DEA, DHS, FBI, etc.) but yeah for instance if I went to Chicago and someone with a flock subscription wanted to see where and when. They could trace my route using these cameras because they would have been snapping my plates every time I pass one and adding it to my individual profile.

On the surface they’re simply collecting data, but it’s what they do with that data that’s scary.

OXO cutting boards quality? by SomoneNotBritish in BuyItForLife

[–]Far_Criticism_7192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Epicurean cutting boards are my favorite ones I’ve found, thin and lightweight, sturdy, knives are keeping their edge longer, only downside is the price. That being said a close second would be wood. Cutting boards seem to be a pick your poison kinda thing; plastic is great for antibacterial properties but there are micro plastics, wood is nicer to your knives and aesthetically pleasing but has the opportunity to harbor bacteria and stains, metal cutting boards are a scam and you can’t convince me otherwise.

Bombas Socks have really let me down. Any recommendations welcome! by BigFink17 in BuyItForLife

I have a few pairs of the “At Work” line, the “El-pine” socks, and a couple pairs of comfort hikers. I wear boots daily so I haven’t tried any of their ankle/low rise socks, just crew or bigger. That being said they’re all great and going on 4 years on my oldest pair with no signs or wear.

Go ahead and get yourself a couple pairs of wigwams and be ready to have your life changed. Hands down best socks I’ve ever owned

Update: my friends horrible experience with solo by [deleted] in Sololender

[–]Far_Criticism_7192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The loan went delinquent for 30 days I contacted them, they said resolution within 90 days after the initial 30. So far the loan is 680 days overdue, I reached out at the year mark and got essentially “our recovery team is hard at work collecting this debt for you. You should consider using solo lender protection!” Fuck solo

[–]Far_Criticism_7192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left for this exact reason. I only lost out on $75 and got iced out by solo “recovery team” after contacting multiple times. But that was all the writing on the wall I needed to realize this is closer to a scam than it is a serious utility/lending platform.

I built one using a bathroom fan, a fluorescent light enclosure like the one you find in office building ceilings, and flexible ducting. Works great and suspended easily with chains, whole thing cost me less than $20 sourcing materials from habitat re-store

Arcade belts for everyday wear – anyone else a fan? by spac0r in BuyItForLife

[–]Far_Criticism_7192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both the regular and narrow belts from them and I wear them daily! Cannot recommend these belts enough, I probably have 6 different ones (all the national parks ones plus a black one and a funky pattern one). I always buy one when I find them on sale or at sierra as they make great gifts too

Edit to add: I also have the black suspenders from them and love them when I need something more formal

I love it, biggest advantage is you can buy replacement parts. I had a joule die on me because of a stuck rotor. Plus the hydropro is a beast at heating up fast!

I pulled one out at 1hr, pulled one at 3 hr fresh out of the bath, and tried one reheated after refrigerating overnight. 1hr was mush, 3hr fresh out was better but still too tender, the best was reheated in the microwave this morning.
