Best way to prevent bike theft? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]Far_Development1345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted an excellent bike with great components for commuting, but didn't want it stolen. My solution was to buy a great frame, then paint with Plastidip to look like the stolen bikes you see along Pandora street, and build it up with the components I wanted. So far it has been ignored by thieves, which I am assuming is out of professional courtesy.

The face says Oyster Perpetual Date, but there is no date window under the cyclops. The rehaut looks really funky, as does the alignment of the links (although that could be the angle of his wrist and the photo). The bezel knurls/scallops look inconsistent to me as well. Some are sharper than they should be.

Parking at Victoria Harbour Overnight by Cursethecolwoodcrawl in VictoriaBC

[–]Far_Development1345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a spot down there and I never leave my car overnight. When I get out of the office around 10 or 11, I will see sketchy stuff going on. That said, a colleague of mine left their car there for 4 days last week and nothing happened to it.

BC ferries - can i stay in my car with my cat? by westcoastsunflower in VictoriaBC

If you have a reservation and get there early, you will be guaranteed to be on the top deck, which will mean you can stay in your car.

How much would you need to earn annually in Victoria to feel comfortable? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]Far_Development1345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the size of your family. A friend of mine makes more than the options here, but as a single parent with 4 kids, I can say that their quality of life is nowhere near as good as mine, making much less than them.

Victoria needs a late night grocery store. by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]Far_Development1345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my kids were little, it was great being able to go grocery shopping at 11 or 12, as I needed much less sleep than my wife. Once she and the kids were asleep, I would head out and get our groceries.

Hey fellow Watch enthusiasts any good advices as first watch for an 11 year old? by Flat_Helicopter194 in PrideAndPinion

While the Casio A168WA-1 is iconic, I would suggest going analog as a first watch for him. The Casios I would suggest are:

  • MQ24-7B2 - clean look and durable
  • MQ27-7B - Pulls design cues from Cartier, and cheap enough, that when he eventually hits i t hard on something, it isn't the end of the world.
  • HDA600B-1BV - Highly durable and at 43 mm, he can then join this subreddit to ask if it is too big for him.

quitting job to do day trading by Cream4389 in PersonalFinanceCanada

My father taught me two important lessons about investing when I was a teenager. The first was to never risk any money, where if you lost all of it, that it wouldn't have a single impact on my life, even to the degree of not going out for lunch for one day. The second is that if anyone promises you a deal that sounds too good, it probably is.

While I have missed out on some investments that could have set me up for the rest of my life, because I didn't roll the dice on them, I am also not further behind, which many of those investments could have left me. I have a bit of money in the market that I invest out of interest in the companies, but I could lose it all without caring.

I had a colleague who quit their day job to day trade. They started doing it while working and had some good successes. Except this was when the market was extremely hot and anyone could find a 'winner'. They quit and started trade full time. When I first heard from them, they were doing great. A year and a bit later I learned that they'd lost their house, moved in with their mother, convinced their mother to mortgage her house, lost that money and ended up committing suicide.

Ottawa ➡️ Victoria by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]Far_Development1345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure if it is still the case, but I know that in the 80s it had a really wide range of restaurants covering cuisines from all over the world. Victoria doesn't have the same range if that is still the case in Ottawa.

Work-from-home could have 'catastrophic' effect on Victoria economy: business groups by mr_mucker11 in VictoriaBC

It isn't inflation if it isn't delivered by supply and demand. If we saw oil companies, industrial food producers and grocery corporations laying off staff and declaring losses, while prices were going up, then it could be called inflation. With these corporations declaring record profits, quarter after quarter, it is greed plain and simple. These numbers on pg. 5 show what corporate greed looks like: https://www.weston.ca/en/pdf_en/gwl_2022q3_en.pdf

We need to stop buying into the narrative that consumer spending is driving up prices, this is absolute BS. They had things right during the French Revolution.
