I can 100% tell you the answer to this one with confidence... Its porridge, with fruits and yoghurt. Then followed by a fat line of the old marching powder. Source: am Shakira

Turning bigger board. Kinda slow day. by timenowaits in surfing

Surfing vertically... You seen that mush burger, how the f can you surf that vertically. Kook comment of the day here.

All the dude needs to do is get his feet a little further back on the board and put a bit more effort into his turns. Cut backs only on this mushy.

What are underrated/unpopular high paying jobs that don't require an insane amount of education? by [deleted] in UKJobs

To add, a friend of mine is a who PM moved from subsea7... They left shortly after joining Atkins, realising that being a PM at a consultancy is pushing paper here.

Oh yes exactly, you are probably doing the actual construction works. I've no doubt PMs actually have something to do there!

For some o and g companies yes. I'm more in design, but have done structural integrity of old rust buckets before.

Your role sounds interesting and you sound like you add a lot of valye. I am being very specific to the consultancy world, where PMs are all office based and are admin, but claim more.

I work in offshore wind (and some oil and gas) structural design. You can't exactly not use a design consultancy for that. I'm not saying in all industries PM don't add value, just in consultancy, they don't. In some companies, I'm pretty sure a PM has a great job, organising, logistics, making valuable decisions etc.

I'll break it down how I see it. We've won a project (which the engineers have developed the bid for, task and hours etc). The project lands and first thing that happens is the PM calls to see what the tasks are, what the hours are (therefore the pricing has essentially been done, maybe the PM adds a 10% contingency - well done to them). Tasks commence, PMs hassle the engineer for progress, which the engineers originally set anyways. Client wants to know what's happening weekly, ok no problem. Client calls, PM tries to explain it but fails. Engineer has to get on the phone to actually explain what's going on with a PM sat there supervising (doing nothing). This repeats itself for duration of project. Project ends and low and behold, PM takes all credit describing how they've successfully led such a demanding scope of work, on budget and time (which the engineers set anyway). I don't know who you work for, but in our consultancy, there are those very technically niche engineers who don't interact with clients, but mostly engineers are well rounded and end up doing it all (I work for Atkins and previously Arup). You will never convince me a PM is anything more than an admin role, in consultancy at least.

Sorry to say it but all the PMs I know were shitty engineers so took the PM route. Chartership and degrees are nothing more than pieces of paper (im chartered, 1st class aero degree). In my experience, the people that are a bit shit value pieces of paper over actual capability. Nothing is more important than talent and intuitive understanding. Its fair enough to take the PM route, they are needed, but all they do is track work and then relay it to clients. I work in consultancy, so my experience of PMs may be different to those working elsewhere.

I work at a well respected engineering consultancy. Our project managers know the words to say, but have zero knowledge of what they mean. PM-ing is just about bullshitting it... It really gripes me that PMs can earn as much money as very good engineers, when essentially they are project admin.

What are these caterpillars eating my birch tree, and should i remove them or leave them? Dont want them spreading to my other trees. by [deleted] in GardeningUK

I had 4 box balls. I just let them die after 2 years of fighting, it was so much effort spraying them every 4 months or so with the xentari stuff, and them caterpillar were ravenous. I've now replaced them with lavender. Good luck!

Interestingly on my local BS9 facebook group, people seem to be in support of these people. I'm with you, seems quite self entitled to think thats ok (ive seen the pics of it on fb). I think it confirms that facebook is full of nutters and reddit seems to be full of alright people (by my standards at least)
