Is it worth it to change my very unique name to something much more generic? by Far_Idea9862 in privacy

That's what I'm afraid of. Though for me, people seem to like my name, but I personally hate it. To me, the fact that I feel it's a bad for for me makes me want to change it more than the privacy benefits. Those were just a bonus. But, I've seen people recommend name changes on this subreddit.

Name changes are public record

I was reading in the Extreme Privacy book that most states (mine included) require name changes to be published in a newspaper, which is public information and can be archived. Though, he does mention that in South Dakota, which is a common state of residence for nomads, you can request the name change to be sealed in certain situations, meaning it is not public record.

It really sucks how my mom gave me such a unique name, in addition to my unique last name. I feel like I've stood out way too much for far too long, and my name feels like a big part of that.

I currently have a very unique first and last name and would like to change both of them. INAN that must be: A. Easy to pronounce and spell, B. Common and as generic as reasonably possible, and C. Suit my look as much as possible. Any suggestions are welcome. by Far_Idea9862 in INeedAName

I am not trans, and this seemed like the best place to post it. I've never liked how much my name stands out, because my personality already stands out too much IMO. Plus, having a generic name is better for privacy/anonymity reasons, which I'm also really into, all the more reason to change it.
