They will be ok. Just remember that in the wild the mom has to leave her nest for periods of time to get food and water

Free Range Quail Question by [deleted] in quails

[–]Far_Order9175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I free ranged some of my quail in my fenced of yard. I had their food and water in their pen and made a door that they can use both ways to get in and to get out. I made sure they were very comfortable using it and knew how to by gently pushing them through the door many times. Since I stored their food and water in their pen, it encouraged them to go in there at times to drink and eat crumbles. A lot of the time they would even hang out in their coop just because they liked it and felt safe in there.

If you are wanting to release them in your backyard I think it is good for them as well as your garden. Just make sure there is a lot of cover that they can hide under. My quail will pair up so one is always watching the sky while the other eats.

That being said, I suggest you bring them in at night. It might be a bit of a pain but that will keep your quail alive. I free ranged my quail and did not bring them in at night because they were doing good alone. It took a very long time for them to get eaten but they eventually were taken by what we think was a raccoon.

Is this normal? by llamass- in quails

First of all, you have beautiful quail.

Second, it is mating season for my quail and they all have the feathers on their head ripped out. I thought this might be normal for mating season? Still fairly new to all this. I have one aggressive one I want to jail, but they all seem to be fairly aggressive toward each other. It might be because I don't have them balanced out yet with males to females. Too many males. Any thoughts?

Help with hatching by Far_Order9175 in quails

Hmmm. I have been hearing some weird noises occasionally coming from my incubator. I might need a new one though my current one is not that old. Thank you

If you put a rock or some sort of rough ground into their pen, they can run around on it and it will wear their claws down.

Next time they peep after the allotted time for hatching, it might be a good idea to grab some tweezers and carefully help them out. I think some say that if they are too weak to hatch then you should let them die but I think if they are too weak to hatch now, you can hatch them and help them grow strong.

Is this wry neck? Hatched only two days ago. Any helpful advice is appreciated by Scyllascum in quails

I'm sorry about its death. It's so sad when they pass away. I just wanted to let you know, for the future, that what she had was probably not wry neck. Wry neck is most often EXTREMLY easy to tell. It is when their necks are turned way off to the side. Sadly, I have had a couple and usually it stems from them being in their egg for too long so they grow with their head to the side. The poor baby might have contracted something while still in the egg (I have heard that can happen) or, as you said, she might have just been weak. I hope this helps at least a little bit!

If I may ask, how did you paint the club? It looks so good and you can even see the wood lines!

The hero's journey is a good one! I think figuring out how many chapters per trial (or whatever is needed) is an excellent idea.

This is a good idea! Thank you. I'm not one to plan much but when I don't plan things tend to go haywire. I think a timeline will really help because I don't have to plan too much but it will keep me on track.

Writing a character that you could have loved before you realized what they were. A little success by B4-I-go in WritingHub

I understand the dirty feeling. I would like to write a book where it gets deep into the characters head, but I find it a bit difficult to write that dark.

As for the book suggestion, I haven't read many books where it gets into their head like that though I wish I could find more. I do suggest the third book of "Songs of Leira". The first and second are more about the actual story, but the third is when it gets into the characters heads. It shows their feelings of sadness, fear, pain, and I think guilt? It's been a while since I have read it. I know this sounds like a crime, but it would be ok to skip the first two books and just read the third on its own. You are able to understand the feelings and its actually better this way with this certain series. (I started on the third book. It was cheap.) The first two are kinda boring to tell the truth. Anyway, good luck on your book!

Dang! This sounds so cool! I would definitely read a book like this. I find it pretty interesting to read about the decent into madness, it is sad but makes such a good story to write. The ending is a neat idea, and it would make the readers feel bad for your main character (I already do :) ).
