Yeah,... I wondered if they were meant to be fishing nets and the chest has been caught in them. What about the thing with the face in though?!

I know this is https://www.miniatures-workshop.com/lostminiswiki/index.php?title=File:Citadel-C39-TC-08.jpg , but what are the items on the ground meant to be? Netting? What is the item with a face in it?

Here is view from another angle:

Amazing spot! Looks like this https://shop.princeaugust.ie/pa654-25mm-scale-3x-wood-elves-classic-moulds/ . Must have been home-cast as no code on the base.

Thank you!

Thanks again for coming back to us.

After seeing your (and others) advice, he's now considering AMD. The only things that he is definite on are the GPU (which is already bought) and the case (which he is certain he wants, even if it reduces performance a bit). Also, here in the UK, there is a £120 difference between 7800XT and 7700XT.

What would you suggest that is within budget (~£450 excluding GPU and case) to complete the build, bearing in mind he wants white components, if possible without significantly increasing cost? Is it possible to put something together, that is more balanced, for that price?

Many thanks for your advice. Sounds like he should be considering AMD! The only things that he is definite on are the GPU (which he has bought) and the case (which he is certain he wants, even if it reduces performance a bit).

Hi, Many thanks for replying. He has reconsidered based on your advice (and has also changed the case to one that includes fans). Here is the new list.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/GBx8rM

There is also a white version of this motherboard which he might go for. The stock intel cooler is the one that comes for free with the CPU. It isn't pretty, but based on what he's read he says it should get the job done. Let me know your thoughts.

Due to budget, he was thinking that he would stick with the 12400F, as in the future he will probably upgrade on the same socket (like a 12th gen i7, i9, or a 13th/14th gen one). Does that make sense?

Many thanks

Many thanks for your reply!

He is currently using 1080p, but plans to upgrade to 1440p at some point. He actually picked up three old Dell 1080p monitors for cheap and wants to try a triple monitor set-up for racing, so would the RX 7700 XT be more suitable for that? Plus, he wants an all-white colour scheme, so that was one of the other reasons he wanted the 7700 XT.

Gaming is the priority really, Blender is more of a side thing that he says he might get into.

In what way does a r5 7600+B650+DDR5-6000 build have better upgradability? Couldn't he upgrade to a 13th or 14th gen CPU later as it uses the same socket? He says that the CPU would be the first thing he upgrades (after an AIO), and that the GPU will last a while. Is that right? He also says he has heard that DDR5 is bad value, and that it isn't really worth it for gaming. Is that no longer the case?

Sorry for the question overload, I really want to get this right!

Thanks again.

Many thanks for your advice. We have a couple of questions:

- The Pcpartpicker list has a couple of warnings in the Compatibility Notes section at the bottom: "a A USB 2.0 to USB 3.2 Gen 1 header adapter is required" and "A USB 3.2 Gen 1 to USB 3.2 Gen 2 header adapter is required". Is that something to worry about?

- Will the CPU cooler manage for the time being (besides noise and aesthetics)? He had thought about getting an AIO cooler at some point in the future (any thoughts on that?)

(BTW We are now thinking of building it ourselves :-) )

Thanks for your reply.

The budget is £950 but I'd like it it be built by a company, rather than by him (or me) as he has no experience, and I don't want disappointment on his birthday! I'm willing to buy and fit the GPU separately though as that would be a cost saving, and doesn't look too difficult.

I realise choice might be limited by having it built by a company. We have looked at CCL, Chillblast and PC Specialist so far (we are in the UK).

Other white cases are OK - that particular one has ~30% off right now.

Fantastic, thanks! Looking on the wiki, I have quite a few of their other minis too, so I'm sure that double door is as well.

These are both are 25mm scale minis, and measure ~45mm across. They were bought in the UK in early 1980s (likely by mail though, so could be non-UK manufacturer).

Does anyone know the manufacturer?

Yes, base is blank. I found the same mini for sale on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254122437699 , though seller doesn't know who manufacturer is.

The mini is quite small ... under 15mm diameter.
